So my sister forgot the password after changing it two days back. I tried out all the usual methods like safe boot, caps lock on/off but of no help. Also, there is no password reset disk.

After digging into net, I got some more information. I'm going to try out the below options tonight:

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor

Reset User Account Password - Vista Forums

But before I play around with these options, I would like to know, if anybody else has encountered this situation? Any possible workaround apart from reinstalling the OS?

Use that Offline NT Password & Registry Editor, i have encountered this in the past and have successfully reseted the password using this.
Using this is quite simple, at first don't enter any password, leave the password blank. Later you can reinstall the password :)
