i have an old HDD which had 2 partitions.

Have formatted C: and installed the OS on it.

How do i format the D: and then have it working without installing any OS software on it. I mean will it allow me to access D: after i do just do a format D: ?

Go to start>run type diskmgmt.msc and press enter. The Disk Management console will open up. Here right-click on the D partition and select format! That's all there is to it. Optionally you can select the file-system, volume label, allocation unit size and other options.

Regarding your other question, yes after formatting you can do whatever you wish with the partition, without any issues.
