You need to provide more details as to whether you already have an OS installed like Windows or DOS, and what exactly you are trying to achieve. :)

Did you get any recovery cds,along with your desktop pc?

if yes,Go into bios and set first priotity to boot from cd.

then insert your cd,and boot the computer.

It willl do all the work.

If you have a windows xp cd,follow the above steps,in addition to the brlow steps

It will say"press any key to boot into cd",

just press any key,follow the on screen instructions,when it displays the partitions,Choose format option and allocate the space for it(this will be in number of bytes).

Continue,and your OS will be installed.

Hope i helped :)

Things You'll Need:

* Windows XP installation disk

* Backup storage media

01. Determine what files you would like to keep from your computer. These file types may include pictures, documents, music, and video files. Other file types are fine too, just keep in mind that things such as executables may not work on a fresh installation by simply copying them to your computer. They may require an installer that decompresses and installs file packages.

02. Determine your backup media and save your files to this media. The total size of all the files you wish to keep may be a deciding factor in which type of storage media you choose. DIfferent types of backup storage media include Flash Drives, External Hard Disk Drives, Data DVD/CD, and even online storage.

03. Copy all of the files you want to save onto your storage media. Remember, once you have formatted your hard drive, you can not retrieve the files. Once you have done so, insert the WINDOWS XP INSTALLATION DISK.

04. Turn on or restart your computer. During the boot sequence, a screen similar to the one pictured left will appear. It will state "Press DEL to enter setup" or something similar. Press the DEL key (or other key if indicated) to enter the BIOS setup.

05. In the BIOS menu, navigate to the 'Boot' section and change the boot priority so that the CD-ROM drive has first priority. The bottom of the screen will indicate what keys to press to change the values. Pressing the '+' and '-' keys are popular for increasing and decreasing the boot priority. Once you have made the CD-ROM drive the first priority, Save your changes and Exit. The computer will restart.

06. During the restart, the screen will prompt you to "Press any key to boot from CD...". At this point, press a key and allow the Windows XP Setup to begin. It will install a few temporary files and will ask you if you would like to 'Setup Windows XP' or 'Repair a Windows XP Installation Using Recovery Console'. You will want to press 'Enter' to continue and setup a new Windows XP installation.

07. Next, you will be prompted to agree to the Microsoft Windows XP Licensing Agreement. Press 'F8' to agree to these terms. Next, you will see the hard disk drive name and its partitions. Press the arrow keys to highlight the windows partition and press "D", then "L" to delete the partition. The screen should then read 'Unpartitioned space'. Press "C" to create a new partition. Highlight the partition and press 'Enter' to begin installing Windows XP.

08. You will now be asked what type of file system to choose for the format of the hard drive. Choose the NTFS file system. There are two options, 'Quick' and standard. If your hard drive was fairly new and had not been used much, then 'Quick' is ok to use, otherwise it is recommended to use the standard. Press 'Enter' to continue.

09. Setup will now format the drive then restart. When the computer restarts, it will again prompt you to "Press any key to boot from CD...". DO NOT press a key, allow windows to start and it will automatically resume the installation. There will be a sequence of menus requesting your input on things like the time and date, computer name, etc. Then you will be asked to enter your product key. This will either be located on a sticker somewhere on your computer case, or the original CD case that the Windows Installation Disk came in. Type in the product key and continue.

10. After several more minutes, Windows will have successfully installed. You are not finished though. To restore your computer to its original condition, you will need to locate the 'Drivers and Utilities" CD's that came with your computer hardware. The main drivers include the 'Ethernet Drivers', 'Graphics Drivers', and 'Audio Drivers'. Installation should be as simple as inserting the disk and running the installer. You will need to restart your computer after these complete.

11. At this point, you can begin copying your saved and backup files on to your fresh new computer!

please feel free to ask queries if any ???
