2006 FORMULA 1â„¢ Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix - 12 March

This marks the start of a new season in Formula 1 and a new season of battles and arguments among TE members over their favourite teams. if you still haven't voted for your favourite F1 team for 2006, check http://www.techenclave.com/forums/which-your-favourite-f1-team-2006-a-67868.html

Usually we start an official F1 thread at TE on fridays but I'm starting this thread earlier than usual coz this is the first race for this season. The build up needs to be bigger than usual. :P

LOL, where did u hear that? The ferrari V8's have no overheating problems at all. The inly problem till now is still the Bridgestone tyres :@ The overheating probs were with the Red Bull cars which use the ferrari engines. Those were because of the Red Bull car's aerodynamics not the engine. ferrari have had no probs with their engine.

@ zhopudey, the quali this year is screwed up. First session of 15 minutes, slowest 6 cars get knocked out and occupy last 6 places(17-22). Next session of 15 mins, next slowest 6 cars get knocked out and occupy places 11-16. These 12 cars can start the race with whatever fuel load they want. The remaining 10 cars will do a 30 minute session for the first 10 places. They start the session with a decided fuel load. Whatever fuel they use is replaced at the end of the session( some weighing the cars n shit). Now try explaining that to a layman :S

Bridgestone Tyres, this year, are better.

Hopefully better than Michelin! Lets just hope the guys at Ferrari and BS, got their act together.

Aah.. Thats for refreshing my Memory.

I beg to differ btw, this is much better than the Stupid 1 Shot qualifying!

Now there are 2 One Shot qualifiers :P, and ye good old run around the track and bump in traffic qualifying sessions :D.

Red Bull's overheating problems were not due to the chassis design, but the engine itself as claimed by Klien. AFAIK, ferrari are using the same engines and having the same problems albeit behind closed doors. you know they do majority of their tests in private circuits. ;)

Its amazing that ferrari and their fans already have a readymade excuse. If they win somehow, its coz ferrari is great and if they lose, its coz the bridgestones suck. In either case, ferrari remains clean. :ohyeah:

Red Bull V8's aren't really V8's but restricted V10's, maybe that's why they're overheating.
They only used it in the early testing, RBR will get new V8 from ferrari.

Thats not RBR, that was Scuderia Torro Rosso. Theyre the only ones that are using restricted V10's. The RBR team has been using Ferrari V8 engines since december.

@ Quickfire, ur mistaken abt the cooling problems for Ferrai. They have been doing a lot of testing at the regular circuits as well, ie Valencia, Valleluga,Barcelona and also at Bahrain. They have had ablosultely no heating problems. If u can gimme any source at all regarding their heating problems as you said? And RBR solved their problems with new aero design.

Torro Rosso (the junior Red Bull team) is running restricted V10 as mentioned in my very first post. Super Aguri as well..I'm not too sure on that.

@hunt3r: I don remember any particular source. try going thru regular news reports during the testing period at various f1 sites like f1-live.com and updatef1.com; RBR haven't solved the problem as yet. The new aero design did help but it was unable to completely eradicate the problem. infact, this new RBR car haven't yet covered a single race distance without problems.

Between 1400 and 1415 hours, all cars will be out on track. The slowest six will then be excluded from running further and will, in order of their lap times, fill the final six slots on the grid.

Between 1420 and 1435 hours, the next six slowest drivers will similarly be excluded and will fill positions 11 to 16. In both of these sessions teams may use as much (or as little) fuel as they wish.

After that, from 1440 to 1500, the remaining 10 drivers will start afresh, their previous lap times being erased. They must then run qualifying with the same fuel load with which they intend to start the race, and however much they use in the session will be topped up under supervision in parc ferme.

Those drivers who qualify outside the top 10 may also refuel between qualifying and the race. The FIA have created a ‘litres per lap’ formula to calculate the amount by which the top-ten runners may refuel after qualifying.

To address fears that some might do one quick lap and thereafter deliberately ‘sandbag’, or drive ‘slowly’ to save fuel, there will be a 110 percent qualifying rule which means that anyone whose lap time is more than 110 percent of their own fastest will have that lap discounted from their admissible refuelling tally.

Update: Added teams and drivers to look out fr in first post :)
