I have an Android 2.2 Device, the Samsung Galaxy S, and I sometimes feel an Android 2.x version doesn't lend much to a Tablet. It's just not optimized for use with a Tablet and doesn't support much expandability.

That's the reason I chose to ignore the numerous Android tablets available in India by the dozen.

I saw this.

eBay India: 10" Multi Touch Windows 7 Tablet PC 1.66GHz WiFi Camera (item 120632216365 end time 09-Nov-2010 13:15:57 IST)

The Windows 7 tablets available have conventional hardware which can easily be replaced/repaired and supported by newer OS revisions.

USB devices, Memory cards, USB modems, Microsoft Word, EVERYTHING can be supported like a netbook does.

Besides it costs slightly more than a Netbook does, is lighter, has a capacitive multi touch screen and has a VGA output too. 3 USB ports is more than some netbooks I know of.

What say guys? Any cheaper options? Should I bite the bullet?

^ err it looks like a huge blown up chinese iPhone in the hand .Why not wait for better alternatives from known brands ?

If you are spending 26k, you might want to look at the HP tm2 that usually goes on sale in the US for 600-700$. (~30k at current exchange rates). If you can source that, I would highly recommend it. And it is a full Tablet PC and powerful enough to run any application and any game. (For 750$, you can get the version with the ATI mobility 5450 as well)

(And it comes with a Wacom digitiser on the screen. So stylus support along with the capacitive multi-touch )

It's pretty famous abroad. Just spoke to the shop owner and he has assured me they are very sturdy and reliable devices, but battery life is poor. 2 hours at best. That puts me into a small doubt.
I also found this:
Lenovo - IdeaPad S10-3 10.1" laptop

You mean the s10-3 or the s10-3t?

http://www.buy.com/prod/lenovo-0651...dd/q/sellerid/11408470/loc/101/213718368.html

I was looking at the s10-3t before I bought my tm2 but at that time, the s10-3t cost about 650$. If it is in the 500$ range, it could be a decent purchasing option.

Guys I just spoke to the store owner of the ebay link I posted.

He said it's a FABULOUS product and it's very sturdy and stable. Runso cool and quiet also. But alas, the 3000 mah battery is not great. He said a max of 2-2.5 hours with Windows 7.

Which means even lesser with Windows XP (right?)

And the Archos and HP tablets are good, but way overpriced. For something with a netbook processor and NO keys, this should be cheaper. Only added cost is the capacitive screen which is super cheap to produce these days

not worth it .. win7 tablets are very buggy even the archos ones .. only the galaxy s and ipad are two good tablets at this point . avoid all chinese ones the hardware on them is not upto the mark ..the galaxy s tablet looks nice though but not a good price to get it at ....
