frankmehta gets a new set of 'phones: The Soundmagic PL-50

I have been wanting to post this since a few days, and have been forgetting! I got my PL-50's in the mail from Hongkong (mp4nation) within 10 days of placing the order! :eek:hyeah:

Initial impressions before burn in are as follows:

1. Decent amount of detail

2. Underwhelming bass

3. Highs are just about perfect.

4. Looks are below average.

A 100 hour burn in is being done for these, after which I shall give my verdict.

Here are photos! Taken with my Nokia E72! :hap2:

thank you people. the headphones cost me $45 since mp4nation sent me a coupon worth $7 extra due to some inconvenience caused to me in an earlier transaction. I had ordered pl 30's and they didnt ship till one month after they were ordered. so i complained, and they gave me a refund in the form of a coupon with the extra cash. hence i bought the pl50 ;-)

^Use the foam tips , it provides a better seal and bass :).Also the soundstage on this is amazing !

Mine are being burn-in right now. :p

Congrats !!

^so are mine! but i find the bass slightly lacking as compared to the pl30s as of now. im not a bass-head, but some minimum bass is required. the pl30s sound warmer as of now.

@vb86 , Do you find the PL-50 to be very revealing with noise/ distortion ? I dunno but though I love the sound ,I feel as if there is some sort of noise/distortion in the sound. It's not very clear.:S.

@fah33m, will get back to you regarding the same. ive burnt them only for a few hours till now and since these are balanced armature iems, i dont think they really require 50-100 hours of burn in. i really haven't had the time to do a proper audition, but i dont expect the sound to really open up. i will start auditioning them soon with different genres using lossless music and compare them to the pl30 to see if the difference in price is really justified or not.

^ Yes they don't need much of burn-in since they are balanced armatures, Ive done ~20-25 hrs on these but not much change as such. There are things I love about these ,the soundstage, the overall fun sounding and musically engaging mids and vocals ..Even the bass is perfect with foam tips..

It's just the grainy noise / distortion at times which spoils the fun.I am doubting the badly encoded tracks are to be blamed ,though I am listening to all 320s mostly.:S.
