Hi Guys,

I need to install a free Anti_Vir with the lightest footprint, why cos performace matters to me and with only 512+128mb of ram I need a antivirus with the lightest footprint.

However coming to the security part of it I really dont care, I can get a online check free of cost from kaspersky, correct me if Iam wrong.

Till then...

if yes bitdefender free or Antivir Personal

at last somebody replies, thanks sumedh. Drop in detection rate is acceptable which is better in terms of overall performance and which is lighter. help me a bit further here. Thanks :hap2:

nod32 ftw!

Nod is not free. I used Avast on my last PC that had 256MB. Never it slowed down my system and it was quite an effective AV. Though, I also combined it with with Free Zone Alarm. Apart from a AV, a Firewall is also quite handy.

Avast+Zone Alarm (both free) with occasional online scanning will do fine for you :hap2:

+1 for Antivir Personal use it and is defiantly good for a low end config

bitdefender free has very low sys req.. antivir req xp but Bitdefender will run on 98 me 2000 all along many on diff forums recommend Bitdefender to be very good

-1 for all firewall they eat up usefull resources on once pc ... if u want to make the pc secure as u have imp data u can afford / should E2140 :p they are damm cheap else they are wast of resources acc to me.. so if some one is in love with firewall :p

^^ ur sentence does not make any sense!

is the E2140 a processor ur mentioning wrt firewalls?

how can a processor make a pc secure? mind explaining this point??

any software installed on a pc will have to use some resources, no need to negative rank them. Taking up even 1% resource in order to stop trojans and viruses from attacking the pc is acceptable to every1.

Thanks you for the replies :) , really appreciate it though a lil late, as you know that when online the system may be vulnerable and stuff.

I downloaded and installed Avast and was not satisfied as it slowed the system down, so I downloaded the AntiVir personal and its just awesome, for sure the lightest footprint.:D

Will try Bit defender also !! and also I I read on a blog that Commodos is the best free firewall and even better then some of the paid ones.

Is Windows firewall not enough? or do we need that extra third party app to really feely secure?

Thank you to all who have responded, I have decided to use AntiVir :eek:hyeah: as it is very light on my system, lighter then avast !!

I will use it for a week and then again change to bitdefender as these are I presume the finalists in this race !!

Thanks again-JPL

i feel firewall and traffic shapping are bad use of system resources.. better buy a router to get secured :p but thats a costly way out o. using the E2140 upgrad path may turn out to be more feasible 5.7k for board+processor+ram :p
