I want to know the best apps for Android which can be used to call over WiFi. For example Skype to Skype calls over 2 Android smartphones. I want to make voice calls only over the WiFi. And I believe these can be done for free. There are many apps, so which ones are the best in terms of audio quality, as well as bandwidth requirements (for slower connections)? A list of the best apps would be great, along with a comparison along the above lines.

Also, if there is a PC counterpart which can be used for the same. It would be great.

My brother uses a samsung infuse and has only EDGE connection but told me that he uses Viber and it works fine even over EDGE so it will work over wifi as well.

Okay. So I'll just start asking in an organized manner.

nice topic, Will folllow this one.

For voice talk over WiFi - Comparison between - Skype, Gtalk, Yahoo messenger, Rebtel, Tango

Looking for best voice quality..

Gtalk FTW. I have used it even on my S60 Nokia phone - very slow (read lower than 56kbps) worked fine. -- just once. Never had to be in a similar situation for a long time now.

For me it's been the opposite, Skype and even Fringe work well for me over normal GPRS, EDGE connection. However, using Viber on such connection, led to considerable lag. However, Viber has excellent clarity on WIFI as well as good 3G networks.

Fringe. Will try it out over a stable 64kbps (8 KB/s) connection once and tell. Let's see (hope).

Also, used Viber to place a call to Australia over WiFi. Excellent.

I tried NimBuzz one side, in India and US, on airtel 2g connection. It was ok, voice was clear but there was a certain amount of delay. I got used to it though (I was on PC with fast connection)

Used viber after a long time over vodafone 2G to make a call to my friend in NZ . It worked just fine, it was crappy the last time i tried but after the major update it is good.

I guess we are talking abt installing app on PC or Phone.

Is there any cheap phone (cordless phone) kind of device which will allow Skype to work with auto login ?

This is due to elder people who dont understand connecting to WiFi, User ID pass in to messenger etc. Is there such cheap skype phone available which will do all things automatically & come online. Elder people can just start switch of WiFi router.
