Its a Mail In Rebate. IMO, even for a US citizen, it is time consuming to get that mail in rebate. This is what i had heard from my aunt living in the US.
Correct me if i/my aunt is wrong.
 
To put it correctly, submitting MIR is as easy as posting a mail. But the MIR cheque arrives late, ~30 days after MIR submission.
 
Not at all easy

its designed for you to fill it incorrectly or forget about it

please read horror stories of reputable companies not giving back money

but all companies are not culprits
