Free video editor for DSLR footage

Could you suggest a free video editor which support canon DSLR video files . any thing running on window or linux is OK.

One option is convert the videos to avi format and then use and editor like VirtualDub or Lightworks.

I tried openshot video editor on linuxmint its working with 60D footage

Doesn't seem to have 4K capabilities (but I don't do video editing).
