Frequent Windows Crash

hello Techies,
I hav this config,
P4 3Ghz soc 478
asrock 865gv mobo
80 Gb IDE samsung HDD
256(266Mhz) RAM XTREME
luxer 600 VA UPS
375 watts SMPS(NAVTECH)
no external GPU
win XP SP 2.
The problem is since last 2-3 months windows crashes after only 3-4 boot ups.the cd from which i install windows is borrwed from a friend who owns a hp pavallion comp. i.e. windows is an original copy.

I hav 3 partitions on HDD viz 20,20 & 40 GB.i used to install windows in first partition but after 3-4 crashes when i tried to install windows there all the initial files were loaded & the computer re-booted but just before the time when setup asks for cd key it showed some error & installation stopped i tried again but in vain ,same situation occured now it dosen't install in that partition.

Then i installed windows in 2nd one it worked for 2-3 boot ups but now it has crashed once again.this time i observed that when i pressed the power button it started booting but just after 2-3 sec it got reset on its own,then booting completed & when i started MS word computer got shut down & on second startup windows crashed.
Also i can't get system started in safe mode too,so system restore feature of XP is of no use.the system is just 14 months old. i suspect some problem with HDD. this system has never been connected to internet so no probs of viruses etc.
 
Mohan, first thing is install your own copy of win xp sp2. your friend should not be loaning you his copy. that would amount to piracy.

i am assuming you have your own copy, in that case make a clean install of your xp sp2, boot from cd, format & then install, do not keep on installing the same thing over & over again, you would corrupt a lot of files that way.

update all your drivers m/c, gpu etc. make sure all the wires & cables are correctly fit. & from there we can start troubleshooting, if the problem persists.

Frist off, he did give some suggestions, did u try that?

and any kind of piracy is against the rule of TechEnclave and will not be encouraged nor be tolerated

we all are here to help each other and expect some respect from the other person, if you think you can behave the way you did in your above post, then am sorry to say you'll have to look for help elsewhere
 
Mohan, we dont discuss piracy or related topics on this forum, read the forum rules before posting.
