Front loading or top loading washing machine?

Can anyone suggest me a good descaler for a Bosch FL WM?
Used Fortune descaler powder ones before. Now there are a lot of options. Liquid or Powder then umpteen brands?

All good tips in here. Particularly like the point about fabric weight matching. If you mix heavy & lighter clothes it increases the friction on the lighter clothes and can lead to them wearing out sooner. Could also contribute to colour fade.

Many people think washing machines wears clothes out faster but if there is a fabric weight mismatch everytime you do laundry then that's the cause right there.

The same with wash temperatures. I don't think 40 is going to damage anything. Even though the label says to use a lower temperature. But if the fabric is delicate it would be better placed in a delicates bag if mixed with heavier clothes.

Let us know how you are finding it.

Says its got Turbowash 360. Will be interested to know how well it works. Short duration but for smaller loads.

Also I wonder if this is an import. Not seen this feature on locally made models as yet.
Since then we have purchased both 11/7 kg lg front load and 9/5 front load..have washed probably few times and drying only once. All the features are good and turbowash is what wash best for me. But if we have space will always suggest separate dryer and washer. Combo is convenient only when space is limited. After drying we have to clean the drum as leftover fibers are always there.

Is there any weight restriction for turbowash?

I don't think it is capable of handling a full load. What does the manual say?
Don’t think there will be restrictions but haven’t tried any heavy load. Turbo wash is like quick wash in any lg front load washing machine. Will update once we wash heavy blankets.

Restriction in the sense if the load is considered more than specified you won't see any reduction in time and it will be like a regular wash even though you selected Turbowash

Just discovered this guy and his detergent testing methods are close to industry grade. He ranks the US version of Tide powder with Oxi as the second best available in the US market.

If you want to imitate it, add some vanish powder to the Surf or Ariel powder you put in the tray and you should get pretty close.

I've not needed to do so as the cotton 60 degree program with only surf powder does the job for me.

why dont you use the liquid detergent?
I do have some and use it on occasion but my preference is for powder. And since most of my washes are at 60 powder is fine. Powder is fine for 40 and above. Below that liquid dissolves better. Also when washing microfiber cloth liquid is better than powder.

Excess liquid detergent residue in the machine can harbour mould. To avoid this situation always use a measuring glass. I use some old cough syrup cup which came with gradations. Around 30-35ml is what you want for a full load.

You haven't mentioned what the dose size per wash your Bosch uses? And what detergent do you use btw

Guys, I am planning to buy a Front loader online from either LG (at amazon) or Samsung (at Samsung shop).

Thing is, the price of LG 8kg is similar to the price of Samsung 12kg. I am mostly for the best bang for the buck at around 30k+/-.

Samsung shop has 22.5% credit card discount plus coupons which makes it so great. We don't really separate clothes and throw everything in. So I am mostly looking for great torque even when the machine is a bit full and still wash great. Old semi automatics are great at this imo.

But everyone around seem to prefer LG for some reason and says Samsung is known to be weak and does not wash well or something. Any thoughts on this guys?

Because LG is better engineered and that is reflected with the relatively higher price. I think a little premium upfront isn’t a problem if it means a problem free machine for longer.

In my case 9 years and counting

Samsung can only compete on price and features and that's what they do.

I'm looking for a machine that washes and works well. Price is secondary.

Now decide what you want

Thank you. Price is actually my primary concern at around 30k. So, you believe an 8KG LG will be a better buy than 12KG Samsung?

Asking this again because at the same KG, LG might be better at the same tier but we are comparing completely different tiers. But, then again, I know nothing.

I do have an experience with 8KG TOP loader from LG though which I bought around 2 years ago. This doesn't meet my expectation and is performing mediocre, wash quality is not that great but still works without issues.

Trick question. Does the 12kg have a larger volume drum? In which case the comparison is not fair and you would need to compare with a 11kg LG which is the next volume size up from 8kg.

Which model number is it? Just curious

I am comparing these two. I personally don't care which brand I buy, I just want a better bang for the buck at 30k as I have said along with reliability and good after sales service (which I believe both will have since they are two major brands)
Samsung OR LG

Please check the specs of both and let me know, I don't know which specs matters most for my needs.

This is the LG I bought previously.

Drum volume. Because with a full load you will do fewer washes and the machine will last longer.

Is there any way you can visit a store that has the 12kg Samsung model?

I need you to measure its drum depth and diameter. No way to get this info otherwise

Would be good if you checked out that LG as well given this is your first front loader

Doesn't have jet spray so won't clean as well. Still the wash quality on any front loader will exceed that of a top loader because of the wash action and you can control water temperature.
