Guys,

I am facing extremely frustrating/irritating problem since long time.. (around a year)

i use SIFY bradband. i have D-Link wi-fi PCI a/b/g card (Rev.C)in my PC.

i have always tried connecting my PC and LAPTOP wia respective wi-fi devices in them.

i always used AD-HOC Mode to connect both of them. laptop discovers my PC and PC doesnt discover my Laptop. thought they both connect after i restart both at the same time.

IP for PC:

192.168.1.2

IP for Laptop:

192.168.1.3

subnet for both 255.255.255.0

no DNS is inputted. however ive tried trial and error everytime by inputting DNS/Subnet etc. Lapnot/PC never connect each other once i click connect in each of the trial and error tries.. i just have to bloody restart both machines everytimet to get them connected. so currently Lappy/PC has only IP & Subnet.
if i ping from PC (Laptop IP) i get replies on the Lappy IP.. if i ping from Laptop (PC IP) i get "Request time out" :@ why the hell is this happening. I am able to play Counterstrike on wireless lan though. i am able to play any damn game on LAN.. if laptop is not receiving pings, why i am able to play games on lan? on my laptop while pinging, receive packets are zero and if i play games on LAN, i do receive packets.
I am able to see my laptop data on PC but no PC data on laptop. i can also transfer/upload data on my laptop.. but there is no incoming data transfer on LAPTOP and thats the main root why i am not able to share Internet.. but why the hell i am able to play games then? i tried home/network wizard everything.. problem not solved
is there anything wrong config ive done.. ive tried each and every trial and error settings and all of them failed. i always have to restart and it rarely connects once i turn oon/off the laptop wifi.
this is driving me crazy.. bringing me away from my PC and losing interest in computers day by day. :S
also bought LAN cable for sharing stuffs via LAN.

ive managed to install another LAN card and conencted with Laptop LAN, it shows friggin Cable is unplugged wth red cross sign. :@ :@

regarding your lan cable .. check if its a cross cable or not.

And wi-fi one .. i really cant comment much... need to experience by myself then only can :)

lil more . Cables

amm check the firewall settings on your PC . also put both of em in same work group .

ive managed to install another LAN card and conencted with Laptop LAN, it shows friggin Cable is unplugged wth red cross sign.

Check the cable . make sure it is crossover .

i think its crossover. actually i asked the dealer of cable to give me a lan cable used for file sharing/internet sharing between the pcs. its 3 meter in lenght. is lenght the concern? why it shows unplugged? on laptop, unplugged messages comes alternately.. like it connects then disconnects in 5 secs and again connects in 5 secs.. it happens at an interval.

can anyone solve my WIFI prob :(

Regarding WiFi.. It doesnt work like bluetooth, the devices are not discoverable if only WiFi is on.. So wherever u create the AdHoc connection first, that device (rather device's network) can be detected by other devices..

As for pinging ur PC frm laptop i'm sure it has to do with the firewall in XP/Vista (i've faced a problem in both).. Turning off the firewall did the job in my case.. Same holds true for accessing shares on the PC as well..

As for sharing internet.. U have Sify so i'm assuming ur internet connection is thru a LAN cable.. First u gotta make sure u've enabled Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on Sify's LAN connection.. Secondly the other LAN connection's IP (in this case ur Wireless connection) needs to be set to 192.168.0.1 (mandatory for ICS) on the PC (whichever comp is connected to Sify).. So on the laptop u can set the IP as 192.168.0.2, mask as 255.255.255.0 on both, and on the laptop set the Gateway and DNS as 192.168.0.1 .. That should suffice..

As for the LAN cable, check that it is crossover(either by manually checking the coloring or with a cable tester - a cybercafe should have one), it should be properly crimped (a loose crimp could also cause the aforementioned problem) and try setting the Speed & Duplex to 10 or 100 Full Duplex as cisco_tech has said...

did u check the firewall settings ??.. wat firewall r u on....

disabling the firewall will for sure do the Job...just go to windows firewall and create an exception for ur IP address and ur done

Shut your firewall OFF.Same thing happened for me for a crossover cables.Everything gets corrected after switching OFF the firewall, also try disabling antivirus.
