what is the current market price of this product? ....and what is power pc 1.86ghz ...is it intel proc or amd proc. ...

^ Neither i guess .
I don't think apple makes power pc based mac's any more . You can't run windows on this as architecture is different ..

AFAIK, PowerPC G5 is capable of running Leopard with some hacks (although you would need to upgrade RAM to atleast 1 GB)

And btw, 36.5k is the price of the latest model with C2D, 2 GB RAM, 9400M graphics :P

^ I'm running Leopard on my PowerPC G4 iBook (1.33GHz) without any issues, apart from evident lag in some memory intensive apps.

yes the new one is with all tht stuff but makes no sense as u willl get same performence and no point of graphic card as no games availible in india for it...

errr, not that I wanted to crap this sale, but that's blatant misrepresentation

To start with, it'd be a G4 and not g5 (Apple never made any G5 minis) , and leopard kinda meows on the g4 instead of roaring the way it does on c2d

It's usable alright, but it's not even close to the performance of the new Minis , far from being the same (even for general browsing and basic usage)

It'll make a great OS X based home server platform, but not exactly your everyday desktop replacement

Ever since apple moved the platform to intel (C2D in this case), you can install Windows using boot-camp for games..

i can bet u on the performence, i personally own 3 mini's, 2 of the latest ones and this one.
unless u havnt usd both together please get ur faacts rite...
people who r in mumbai and are intrested in my macmini i can compare it with the latest one and show u......... the new mini's are 2.0GHZ and this one is 1.83GHz. i am an avid mac user and own the whole range including the macpro and for a fact i know the performence of them....

Regardless of what you bet on, Superczar is right. You cannot compare a G5 leave alone a G4 to the C2D. A C2D at 1.86GHz is roughly 1.5~1.75 times as fast as a Power PC 970 (G5) @ 2.0GHz. I am a Mac developer and use both PPC and Intel based Mac platforms for resource intensive tasks on a daily basis. You will need a G5 @ 2.5GHz to even compare to the most basic C2D.

Also as Superczar mentioned, there never was a G5 based Mini. One of the main reasons Power PC was abandoned by Apple is its poor thermal capabilities and IBM's inability to develop it further without compromising on cost and thermal properties. G5 runs so damn hot that it burns if you keep your hand any where never the vent's on a Power Mac G5. Its quite an impossible task to put it in a Mac Mini.

A G4 based Mac Mini is still a decent option as a download server or as a compact machine for the avg user with Panther/Tiger running. You will loose your credibility as a seller if you began comparing it to a C2D.

all i am trying to say is for a everyday desktop it is fine, but it isnt a gaming machine...... the intel chips are thee to run windows and so there is a C2D..... mainly for gaming and to run windows.......
The G4 is ample enough for running tiger/panther on it and it may be a bit laggy when running leapord........
It is also GR8 for making movies using iMovie HD..........
Also i never told any one to run leapord on it, which u can officially by upgrading the Ram....

But you did make this statement

which is what people are saying is a misrepresentation. With a C2D based Mac Mini, You do get a massive improvement over G4 based Mini. While a G4 based Mini is only good enough for mundane tasks, a C2D based Mini is quite capable as a moderately powerful workstation. In our office they are used in that way. When a employee has to work on 3~4 mac's and is constrained by space, he is given Mac Mini's. A Mini with a 1.86GHz C2D and 2GB RAM beats the crap out of any Power Mac G5 workstation we have.
