...does anyone know if AMD will be making a dual core FX equivalent of current X2s ?

when are the next proccys coming out? along with their new socket mobos etc....

asking because i may be going to the US soon so obviously wouldnt pass up that opportunity....

also is it confirmed that the new proccys will be using DDR2?

any info would be nice

The new socket from AMD will be called M2 for desktops and S1 for mobile chips.

Yes it is confirmed that these sockets will require DDR2 667 Mhz RAM.

AFAIK, the FX series will still be single-core processors.

Yes the X2 4800+ is currently the fastest processor out and the FX-57 only marginally beats it in games...

But the ides is that gamers will stick to Single-Core and the FX series.

yeah but AMD will definitely have some "High End" proccy out sooner or later and mainly will that be dual core?
Imho X2's will serve as hi-end dual core processors for AMD. More watered down and value segment processors might be made available later when dual cores become mainstay. So if you are going soon , a x2 toledo core (wrt to your budget in mind) would be your best bet for a dual core.

FX series is aimed at the gaming public, and unless games show optimisations for dual cores, you will have a high clockspeed single core proccy in the FX line.

^ Yep Aces is right, thats what AMD themselves have stated. So at least at the moment no dual-core FX has been *officially* planned according to roadmaps, though that could change later.
The new sockets are expected to arrive in the Q2 , 2006. So whether you could pick it up, depends on when exactly you are going to the US.

There's a difference of 2.8Ghz on the FX-57 versus 2.4Ghz on the X2 4800+. You call that marginal?
Even the FX-55 will be able to maintain a lead on the X2 4800+
