It is time i get a good P&S camera that will also offer me some manual controls. I'm new to photography, so dont really want to jump the DSLR bandwagon to start with as a good DSLR with good lenses would cost me quite a bit.

I have zeroed it down to two of these cameras, The FZ28 and G10.

FZ28 biggest pros is its HD video recording capability plus the 18x zoom, but then again the audio is mono and crappy.
Canon G10's pros is its external flash and the IQ?

Prices in grey for the G10 is quoted around 24k. Dont know the prices of FZ8 yet.

I plan to do some extensive shooting at this Aero India which is why I feel the 18x zoom would come more handy? I am most worried about the IQ as i am sort of a pixel peeper as well, out of these two cameras whose IQ in base ISO or within ISO 400 would be the best?

Is it worth sacrificing the Zoom for the IQ or the difference is too minute to notice? I honestly did not find any good comparison between these two specific cameras. If there are any other comparable cameras that can be comparable, let me know.

IQ wise the G10 seems to be better, however the extra zoom would definately be useful while shooting distant objects, like you intend to do.

IMO If you are mostly gonna do outdoor photography, then you should prefer the extra zoom over the IQ.

Very true...

Better to capture that distant image at decent IQ than to take a standard snap with superior IQ!?

Compromise on Pixel-peeping , if going for the FZ28...

Overall quality will be decent enough !

Guys the Canon G10 and FZ28 are both going almost at same prices in the grey around 22k that is.

The dealers are warning though that panasonic after sale service is absolutely zero compared to canon where even grey market cameras can be serviced possibly.

Shall i look at the Canon Powershot SX10 IS instead? or G10 it is? its only the Zoom thats bugging me a bit, but considering the build quality, Iq and after sale service the Canon G10?

Help!
