And 6800 GS 512 MB as well
GAINWARD decided to deploy a different tactic this time around. As it could not get any serious numbers of Geforce 7800 GTX 512 chips, it decided to make its own 7800 based card with 512MB of memory.
The company got the first samples of Geforce 7800 GT with 512MB of 1.4 ns memory. The card will be known as the Gainward PowerPack! Ultra/3450PCX TV DVI "Golden Sample" Goes like Hell. So Gainward is suggesting it goes like the clappers but is probably the longest graphic card name in the computer graphic history. Knowing Gainward, we expect that the both core and memory might end up at higher speeds than Nvidia's reference specification but we have to check this first.
Gainward also reached into the power mainstream market and made a new card based on Geforce 6800 GS and again managed to solder 512MB of GDDR 3. It uses 256 bit 1.4 nanosecond memory on the red printed circuit board (PCB). We don’t know the clock speeds of this card yet, but we know it doesn't come with a short name either. It is called Gainward PowerPack! Ultra/2350PCX TV DVI "Golden Sample" Goes like hell. How about Gainward 6800 GS 512MB Clappers? It's kind of easier.
Samples have already been produced and sent from Taiwanese office to Europe and we expect retail cards in a few weeks. They both might be great selling cards, as they have enough memory and 512MB always sounds cool. At this point 512 MB over 256 MB doesn't make much difference but it still sounds cool. The only limitation with 256 MB that I can think of is that you wont be able to play or test FEAR on 2048x1536 4X FSAA and 8X aniso with 256 MB card. You need 512 MB for it but that’s about it. We will check about performance of both cards soon. Both cards have Gainward specially designed PCBs that usually lets you overclock a little bit higher.
