While Mobile World Congress 2011 is a couple of days away, details of a few upcoming Google Android based smartphones surfaced on the web. PocketNow grabbed specifications of several upcoming Android handsets that include Samsung Galaxy S 2, HTC Desire 2, HTC Desire HD2, and HTC Wildfire 2 listed at Expansys. As the names appear, these handsets would be step higher versions of their predecessors and most likely would run Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Let s take a look at these upcoming handsets.

Samsung Galaxy S 2

Heavily anticipated smartphone to supersede the Galaxy S, the Galaxy S 2 was deemed to carry a dual-core microprocessor. As per the listing, Galaxy S 2 i9100 will have dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8260 microprocessor. Check out the full specifications of the Galaxy S 2 below:

- dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8260, Adreno 205 GPU
- 512MB RAM, 16GB internal memory
- 4.27-inch capacitive Super AMOLED Plus (WVGA 800x480) display
- 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED Flash with video light at the back
- 2 megapixel camera at the front panel
- Video recording at full 1080p HD at 30fps
- Quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 Mhz), dual-band (3G 900/1200), HSDPA 14.46Mbps and HSUPA 5.4Mbps

- Bluetooth 3.0

- Social Network Services (Social Hub), Twitter and Facebook Integration
- DLNA certified
- Video Playback formats: MP4, 3GP, DivX, XviD
- 3.5mm Audio Port, microUSB and HDMI TV out

The 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording at 30 fps surely looks interesting and raised our expectations from this handset. Do note that all upcoming high-end smartphones will mostly sport Near Field Communication chip. The out-of-the-box DivX and XviD video format support will entice many who love watching movies, TV shows and videos on the move. There's no word on battery life and price of the Galaxy S 2.

HTC Desire HD 2

HTC's top of the line Android handset Desire HD will soon get a successor at the MWC 2011. Dubbed as Desire HD 2, the Expansys listing notes that this successor will have a 3.3-inch screen with qHD 960x540 pixel resolution support. However, I think the phone will come with a 4.3-inch display, unless HTC is planning a small Desire HD handset. The screen size in specification listing looks like a typo. Desire HD carries 768MB RAM while the Desire HD 2 listing shows 512MB RAM means the RAM size has been brought down. Nonetheless, the Desire HD 2 will pack dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor.

- Dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8260, Adreno 205 GPU

- 3.5mm Audio Port, microUSB and HDMI TV out
HTC Desire 2

One major difference between Desire and Desire 2 is the 2 megapixel front facing camera. It s absent even in Desire HD 2 though, which is bit surprising. Rest of the features mostly remain the same.

HTC Wildfire 2

Though Wildfire was looked upon as a slow and sluggish mid-range Android phone from HTC, its successor might change that impression. Its display size remains the same but the resolution support gets a bump. Even the processor gets bumped from 528MHz to 600MHz MSM7227 chip. Rest everything remains the same.
- 600GHz Qualcomm MSM7227, Adreno 200 GPU
- 384MB RAM

- 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED Flash with video light at the

Details of Galaxy S 2, Three HTC Phones Leaked > Mobile Phones > Techtree.com

  • Why did Sammy switch to Qualcomm proccy with Adreno 205 :( The PowerVR SGX540 in the older Galaxy still beats the Adreno 205. Guess the Hummingbird dual core is not ready yet.

  • Adding to that disappointed that the Desire2 didnt get the latest Qualcomm 8255 with Adreno 205. If they release a new phone with the same 8250+adreno 200 then its a fail IMO.

  • At last the Wildfire gets a resolution bump. But still the MSM7227+Adreno 200. Come on. I expected a MSM7230 800MHz+Adreno 205. Pretty disappoint GPU wise from Samsung and overall disappointing with HTC

Ahh u Beat me to it ..

now waiting for Desire HD 1's/Desire's price to fall drastically :bleh:

SLCD in HD 2 ? Not good.

Atleast wildfire gets a gpu here.

.. when GSMarena still didnt have this leak

thats where i was lurking..

Going by the details, Samsung Ace seems to be the only decent-ish news which lived to its expectation.. of filling up the gap between 13k and 18k.

Good to see the DivX/XviD support becoming a norm. About time as well..

.

Exactlly what I have in my mind too ;) Hope they dont disappear off the market immediately after the new ones come out.

I think those specs are crap. There's no way the Desire 2 would keep the crappy Adreno 200. And samsung using a dual core qualcomm instead of using Tegra 2 or the recently announced new processors ( remember the gigantic orders they placed for the Tegra 2 ?)

I wont believe it till i see it myself. Lets wait for the MWC to begin

I agree with sid1712. These specs are nothing out of the ordinary. I was hoping that dual-core phones would at least have better RAM. It seems like most phones coming out now are going to be run of the mill things with almost similar specs, even when different manufacturers are making them. :-/

LOL :bleh:

still with adreno 205 : :(
why can't they make peace with tegra 2?

i'm going to stay clear of all these..i already upgraded phone 3 times in last 10months.
getting a tablet now and shutting up for another 6-8 months if possible. :(

n 512MB RAM will not be enough anymore with cpus of this caliber.
i'l already down t 100MB at idle on blade with widgets running. i think DHD already has 768MB.
