Hey,

I am facing some weird problem with my gaming laptop. Its ASUS G-50V - x6. i used to play almost all games on max out settings, but recently there's this funny problem that i am facing. After a min of play, FPS drops and game starts to hang. Then i hit alt + tab, wait for 30 seconds and again game is running fine, but only for a min or 2.

Tried formatting, restarting, putting new drivers, different games, lower graphic settings, overclocking (inbuilt feature), and what not. But problem still remains.

Please advice what to do, any tool to check anything, i have no idea what to do, even its out warranty now..

N ya, i am downloading using this laptop 24 x 7. Could that be of any problem ? Because i started using this laptop for downloads around 2 months back, and started facing this problem around a month back, so is there any link ?

Also, buying a extra cooler of any help ?

Please advice.

Check the temps as suds has mentioned, and if you are using your lappie as a download rig, do you shut the d/w while playing games? If no, try that too.

i do not shut d/w while gaming, but ya i guess heat could be an issue, but what to do as i never use to face this problem before !

Well, can you can do 2 things, first is open up the laptop, and clean the HSF and 2nd, change the thermal paste. Do this only if your laptop is not in warranty and you are confident of opening it up. You will need the Service guide/manual(not the user manual) for this.

I did this around 2 months ago and now my laptop is ok, previously it used to overheat to 80+, laptop would shut down sometimes.

i guess i wont be able to open it and clean, any other way out.

Going to Nehru place today to buy a cooler, any particular model/expected price etc. Also cant i clean without opening ?

thank you

Nope, the dust accumlates between the Fan and the heatsink. to remove the dust, you will need to open it up. BTW are the temperatures high? Did not mention that?

I recently had similar problem. Chrome was the culprit. It only happens if i chrome is running in background. Also check your hdd health using hard disk sentinel.
