What sense does this make?

Crysis - Rs. 999
Gears of War - Rs. 1,649
Need for Speed Pro Street - Rs. 999

And the first two are both under "Games for Windows"!!! Why is GOW so overpriced?!?

^^ That doesnt make sense??? (Talking in my noobish tone) Honestly, it doesn't make sense why on earth they expect us to pay for the game when we are making huge upgrades in the first place.

In other words, hate the the player-not the game.

I guess it does not really matter whether or not you MAKE SENSE as long as you make MONEY.......And they sure as hell are....If only some more indians take up gaming and cos can focus on volumes rather than margins, and start a price war of sorts , we could really see some change...but It is not likely to happen in the near future (is it?) .

the sense issue here is that 'Games for Windows' is not a publisher. "GfW' is a branding exercise by microsoft and nothing else. Its just a badge on de games.

Gears of War is a game published by MS. And typically all MS games are overpriced in India when compared to other titles.

NFS-PS and Crysis are both from EA. EA has a policy according to which all new titles for the India market are priced at either 999/- or 1299/-.

the reason behind this imo is that EA has a tie up with its partners here such that the game gets replicated IN India for the local market while MS is still importing its games.

True what stalker says EA actually has a tie up with the distributors here out here in india. If u check the crysis support numbers there is a number for indian help center. thats why they are selling at such low price also EA has a studio out here in india (jamdat).

Gears of War is a Microsoft title. Hence its following the standard Microsoft pricing of 1650~1850 for India.

EA's standard pricing for India is 999 or 1299. So you will find all EA titles priced thus.

All these prices are still better than the $40 to $80 pricing in the US.

agreed , we pay less for games compared to us prices :cool2: , but we get shafted in rear by Hardware costs  which are on average 1.5 times the US prices...:@

what kind of hardware are you talking about
Prices of hardware are very competetive these days when talking about processors/mobos/Rams
The 1.5 times difference you are sepcifying might be for gfx cards
and with the xfx 8800gt going for 14k i see that even this difference seems to get narrower

@john117, I don't know what you are talking about. I have often compared prices of Hardware between the US (on very good priced sites like Newegg) and India (Nehru Place), and I have always found the products to be cheaper in India! ( I suppose if you aren't going to a place like Nehru Place in Delhi or Lamington Road in Bombay, the markup by middlemen would make it more expensive - so maybe you are talking about that).

(And I suppose the reason for that is that we are closer to Taiwan, China etc. where the hardware is actually manufactured, as opposed to the US).

Even in the case of hardware, the prices for the budget stuff (Which sells the most in India) is actually same or cheaper than US prices. Be it motherboards, processors, RAM or HDD's. The premium stuff which does not sell in numbers is obviously costly for the same reason. But with the increasing competition, the prices too are gradually becoming better in these segments too.

^ No, especially since they have reduced the price of the 360 version of GOW to Rs. 999!! :bleh:

its always been the case. ms games have always been priced more.

when others were 1299 & 1499 ms was 2199 & 2499. its continuing the same way.

p.s - you can get crysis for Rs.800 & gow for Rs.1400 after discount

Err..In what way isn't that promoting the x360 version?
My bad.. I was either on crack, or misread your post. What I mean to say is that they should be promoting the Windows version (since that's the 'new' game) and not the 360 game. But yes, they seem to be doing the reverse, and yes, that's how business works.
