i have been using the creative tactic 3d sigma ... check the reviews its superb for gaming and other audio needs

pc or ps3/xbox?
if its the latter and if your friend wants a real gaming headset then unfortunately the starting range starts from around 10 k with the tritton ax pro.
if he wants a headset for pc then he has a lot of options.
