gaming on wireless network... how?

Following is the main requirement:

I want to connect to my friend's computer (in my society) who is also using wireless Dlink router mainly to play games and share files.

I have checked using a laptop, my friend's wireless signal is reachable @ my place.

is it possible to play games on this wireless network.

if yes, 1. then which router should i go for ?

2. can this router also server for my wireless broadband ?

Or shoud i only go for wireless receiver?

I have Hathway Broadband internet @ home
 
1st check the ping from your laptop to his laptop, leave it running for 20-30 minutes and see if you have a high lag or dropped packets,etc

If none of those, just buy a USB WiFi adaptor for your desktop and plug it in. You dont need a router just to play games since your friend already has one
 
If possible lay a Cat 5e LAN cable..for file transfers wireless really falls flat..As suggest ..u can go for a usb wifi lan adapter.It shud cost u around 750Rs..
 
Either case u dont need a router...all u need is a wifi card(in case of wifi option) or an additional 120 rupee network card (in case of of cable option)..but one meter of decent quality lan cable costs u around 14 rupees..plus two connector at ends around 8Rs..
