Intel i3 2100-6.2k

Corsair XMS3 OR Gskill Ripjaws 2X2GB 1333mhz-1.5k
Sapphire HD7850 2GB-15.3k
Seasonic S12ii 520W-3.5k OR Corsair VX550W-4.4k[You should get a new psu which is solid than your current one]
Nzxt Gamma-2.4k
If your budget is too tight then sell few components from the current rig or get something from TE market,Hope this helps.:)

thank jakob! this is a very good config indeed. but a few say that upcoming games could utilise the cores of a 960T processor. should that be considered too?

The Amd phenom II lineup is not quite there performance wise comparing to intels lineup here is a link to give you an idea-AnandTech - Bench - CPU
Also latest titles use more GPU power than CPU so there's no point getting a specific cpu for gaming when you're getting Amd HD7850,The latest titles will run just fine on this config.

ah well well jakob! thanks again. so i think more or less i have decided on:

core i3 2100 + DH67CL-B3
gigabyte HD7850 OC windforce x2
gskill ripjawsx 4gb x 1
seasonic 520w psu
bitfenix merc alpha OR nzxt source 210 elite/gamma

should do fine? if it overshoots the budget, extra money could be put in after selling the existing components.

UPDATE --> if his mood demands saving some money, then would this mobo be any good?

UPDATE 2 --> I track back. H67 is better than H61 :p

The motherboard iintel dh67cl is best value for money . And buying H61 motherboard is not recommanded !! as it hinder future upgrades . The rig jacob suggested is good . Go with it . For Hd7850 go with gigabyte one @ 15.2k as it is factory overclocked .
