Hello everyone! I want to build a new PC, mainly for gaming. Budget is around 50k. Here are the specs that I've thought of:

CPU - Intel E8400 (Rs. 9,000)

Mobo - Abit IP35-E (5,000) or Biostar TP35D2-A7 (4,500)

RAM - Transcend 800 MHz DDR2 (2,500)

Hard Drive - WD 320GB SATAII (2,800)

Cabinet - Coolermaster 690 (4,000)

PSU - CM Extreme power 600W (2,800)

Graphics Card - XFX Geforce 8800 GTS (15,500)

Monitor - Dunno which one to buy over here. Mostly want a 17" LCD monitor. (Samsung or Dell? Square or widescreen? Which model?). Budget around 8-9k.

Total ~ Rs. 50,000.

(Speakers, optical drive, keyboard, mouse etc. carried over from old config).

Questions:

1) Should I get the Abit board or the Biostar one? The price difference is minimal, so which one would be a better board?

2) Should I buy the 8800 GTS now? I was told to wait till the new radeons came out on another forum, but I guess they'll be overpriced in India in any case. Should I wait for a month or two before making a purchase decision? Will rates on current cards drop substantially till then? Or should I just go ahead and build the damn computer :P

3) Need a good 17" LCD monitor recommendation.

4) I will be building another new PC around December 2009, so will this config last me for a year and a half? I want to be able to play games in high settings and at my monitor's native resolution (1280X1024) for 18 months at least.

Comments/suggestions will be highly appreciated :)

Its 2k now for the 800MHz sticks and we can figure out what u meant by that price; :P

1. Abit'll be a better board; :)

2. Upto u; If u wait there, maybe better GPUs and better prices; :P And btw waiting is a hypothetical case wherein u'll have to keep waiting as long as either of the GPU manufacturers shut 'em down themselves [even otherwise what u buy today is going to be obsolete tommorow]; :P

3. Dell has a 17"er; which's an 8 bit TN panel; Good one;

4. Yes this should; :)

Pls change that PSU to a Corsair VX450; priced ~ 3.2k; :)

Thanks for the fast reply :)

My real confusion was with the GPU purchase.

An 8800 GTS is sufficient for gaming at such a low res, right? Or should I extend the budget a bit more and get the 9800 GTX? Or would that just be overkill?? :Comp2:

^^ no u need u update 19 or 22 lcd for better 1400x900 or 1600x1200 resluion u can set all high even g92 card will work

btw g92 will replace same chip as 9800 gtx :P

Is that a G80 GTS 320MB/640MB or a G92 GTS 512MB???

If its the former, there'd be a significant performance difference from the 9800GTX and even the G92 GTS 512!!!

Nothing of an overkill anywhere!!!

It's the G92 8800 GTS (512 MB).

The 9800 GTX is costing around 17.5k here, whereas the 8800 GTS is for 15.5k.

I thought the 8800 GTS was the better choice since I would be gaming at lowish resolutions in any case (17" monitor).

So, which card should I buy?

ram --- gskill or corsair or OCZ .....only 300-500 buck diff compared to transcend

psu --- corsair 450w..if not ...POV black diamond 500w -- rs 2650

rs15000 for GFX ...better get a 19-22inch LCD....its better to wait for the ATI 4850 arrival.

CPU - Intel E8400 (8600)

Mobo - Abit IP35-E (5400)

RAM - Corsair 1GBx4 (5000)

Hard Drive - WD 320GB SATAII (2800)

Cabinet - Zebronics Bijli (1300)

PSU - Corsair HX450 (3400)

Graphics Card - evga 8800GT (11500)

Monitor -Viewsonic VA1926w(2000:1,DVI,Analog) (9000)

i would suggest get the E7200 instead of E8400 and use that extra moolah on a better 19\22 " LCD ...

dunno about you but i feel a 19\22" LCD is minimum ..it will be better than a 17" in case u watch movies on your PC. hell even gaming would be better on bigger screen.

dont go for something to big ..maybe 19" will be the sweet spot :).

and yeah for the mobo get the IP-35 E ..with the E8400\7200 it will overclock very well .

if ur really going to be sticking to a 17"crt for sometime, i would suggest that you get a 9600gso.. the 88gts is going to be a complete waste of doh.

the 8800GTS is a huge overkill at the lower resolutions that you intend to play at. The 8800GTS is a great card, but it will be wasted if you want to play at 12x10

Consider a bigger screen or a cheaper card (9600gt or 8800gt) for your current needs.

A corsair VX450 would be a better investment rather than a CM600. Higher efficiency and silent!

when going for a good gfx card consider a better monitor a 19" is advisable.....and RAM you can choose gskill....
