71-90K Gaming PC for ~Rs.70K

I need help in buying/building a new PC. I have picked out a configration below. Its going over my budget slightly , I can buy it at this but would like to see if there is a way to optimize it and bring it a little lower. The purpose would primarily be gaming and the internet.

  1. What is your budget?
    • 70K (+- 10K )
  2. What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
    • CPU - Intel Q6600
    • Motherboard - Intel DG33FB
    • GPU - Palit Geforce GTX 260 Sonic Edition
    • RAM - 2 GB
    • Monitor - Viewsonic VA2226w
    • SMPS - Cooler Master xTreme Power Plus 600W
  3. Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    • Monitor - Viewsonic VA2226w
  4. Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
  5. Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
    • Yes, will upgrade the following within 6 months
    • Monitor - Get a 24" Full HD LED Monitor

    • No, never in the future either.
  13. Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
    • Windows 7 64 bit
 
Two issues.

Why western digital green drive.
It's not good choice as boot drive or main drive.

Second

Any core i5 will do. Find cheapest.
 
^^ In my opinion the following should be a configuration, you should aim for.

Intel Core i5 4430 ~13500/-
ASUS B85M-G ~6500/- or ASUS H87-PRO ~9500/-
G.Skill RIPJAWS 4GB x2 1600MHz ~4200/-
Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 or Western Digital Blue Edition 1TB hard-drive ~4000/- (avoid Green and LP edition drives for Primary OS tasks as their performance is lower)
Unless you have a specific aim by getting the Cooler Master STORM Trooper, get a more compact cabinet that serves your purpose, e.g.
  • Corsair Carbide 400R ~5000/-
  • Cooler Master HAF XB ~6500/-
  • Corsair Graphite 600T ~9000/-
Rest of your short-listed components are fine by my opinion, so go ahead.
Where are you based, you might like to add a UPS to the list as well if you face erratic power situation.

There then you have the latest Haswell (at almost the same price as Ivybridge) :)

Core i5 3470 at 10200 and haswell 44** at 12500

What we gonna get with higher 2500?

10% maximum performance gain ?


B75 gigabyte retails around 5200

Why spend extra 1200-1500 for what exact performance gain?
 
Instead buy an ssd which will be far better than these 8-10% performance gain over ivy bridge .

SSD Will surely make your games run far better and enjoyable.

OP is migrating from Q6600 setup launched in Q1'07 to Haswell Q2'13.
Besides OP had opted for 3570 which is priced at 12650/- whereas the Haswell 4430 is priced at 12125/- [you have quoted an altogether different, albeit lower end processor to prove your point]
So pray tell me which is better ?

Why push him backwards? Yes the price difference of <2k is justified over a more efficient processor & better features. Ramp it up with 2133MHz or 2400MHz RAM and then the performance difference is phenomenal.

OP can also chose cheaper motherboards from MSI or ASRock.

Note: I will NEVER recommend Haswell to anyone who has an Ivy-setup. In OP's case and budget this is the best option.

As I understand intel core i5 line up,
Its about one or two speed bin up and mix of vt d vt x features here and their.

All core i5 don't have hyper threading but have turbo clock which is max 2 bins up or maybe more.

So ivy bridge to haswell.
I honestly dont see much improvement in gaming benchmarks.

So choosing basic core i5 with turbo clock helps to save cash which can be invested in ssd.

That is my logic.

Is OP going to over clock ?
Is he investing in overclock able RAM ?

In general, I saw performance gains over Ivy Bridge of 1 - 19%, with an average improvement of 8.3%.

The gains over Sandy Bridge aren’t large enough to make upgrading from a Sandy Bridge i7 to a Haswell i5 worthwhile.

so decide yourself.
whether to buy in latest is greatest crowd or value for money and ssd upgrade.
 
so all in all,
even sandy bridge fills the need of gaming.
provided you get far more discount than ivy bridge or haswell.

Hi Sasikanth, I preferred the way Storm Trooper looked to HAF looks. Purely subjective. I have already bought the cabby as I got a really good deal.

Can anyone tell me their experience with MSI India? Any issues I should be aware of? How is MSI overall?

^There is no definite answer about MSI, because retailers seem to be promoting MSI products still in India ; but if you were to search their website, you will be definitely aware India is no more listed.
