I'm looking to upgrade my current PC in the first week of July and would like to get your thoughts and insights on the same.
  1. What is your budget?
    31-40K
  2. What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
    A 6.5 year old Config. CPU -
    CPU Intel E7200 2.53 Ghz
    Mobo Zebronics NF7050
    Ram Transcend 2 GB Ram
GPU Palit 9600 GSO 384 MB Ram
    Cabinet Zebronics Bijli
PSU POV Black Diamond 500 W
  3. Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    • PSU (if possible )
    • Cabinet
  4. Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well
    • CPU
    • Motherboard
    • GPU
    • PSU
    • RAM
    • HDD (1 or 2TB)
    • Cabinet (If Requried)
  5. Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
It will probably stay around for a couple of years, at least.
  6. Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
I am open to buying online. Depends mostly on where ever i get better deals. I am from Mumbai so Laminton Road could be one option.
  7. Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market
    No
  8. What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
    • Gaming (Mostly FIFA)
    • Software Development (VS 2010, TFS...)
    • Browsing
    • Watching HD and SD movies/tv shows
    • Occasional image processing (Lightroom/Photoshop only)
  9. Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
    Would Prefer an Intel Config
  10. If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
Mostly FIFA 14 though other games i play occasionally. FPS, racing, some strategy, etc.
  11. What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage?
    Gaming - 1900 x 1080, preferably
    Desktop - 1900 x 1080
  12. Are you looking to overclock?
    No
  13. Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
    Windows 7 64 bit
So, basically I'm looking for an upgrade within the Rs. 40k budget. Will be using it mostly to Play FIFA series. The new rig should be good enough to play the FIFA series (next 2-3 years) at the max resolution .

I am also open to the idea of using my current GPU (if possible) and PSU if my budget is not good enough currently. Will then upgrade the GPU and PSU in September 2014.

Thanks a lot, in advance.

thank you for your replies.
@bssunil i am only looking to buys mobo+cpu+ram+gpu+hdd+psu.
So as per your configuration i can save around 12000 which can be utilised for the above components.

AMD is better VFM. Actually the money you save, go for better GPU! Intel platform you'll spend a lot more on CPU and Mobo combo. The final output will not give you the most optimized result for the money. Note - Am not saying that Intel is not good for gaming. Intel processors are the BEST in terms of performance but not money wise for gaming.

Yeah Good config. Just remember to go for Sapphire R7 250X 1 GB DDR5 card which is for Rs.6,500 on flipkart and is faster than the 2GB DDR3 Rs 6000 GPU.

My first ever pc was a AMD one. It had lot of heating issues. Maybe thats the reason i am sticking to intel. but as many here are suggesting and AMD config then will surely consider that.
Ah yes, I can understand that. This was the issue of way past, more than a decade back. This is no longer true. So don't pay attention to that information any more. I've used several AMD configs for PC gaming and otherwise and not had any issues. I'm currently typing on a 2009 Quad core AMD machine which is still running smoothly and with all the games that I throw at it.

Hi,

Just for my understanding can u quote an intel config with the same performance as the AMD one mentioned above. Will help in understanding the price difference.

Thanks,

here ya go...
Intel i3 4130 - Rs.7.5k
Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H - Rs.5.8k
Other components can remain same.
So in this case actually the difference isn't much, about Rs.1k ka difference. However, since you are on a budget, then it will matter.
Performance difference?
Both are pretty much the same.
i3 = 3.4Ghz Dual core, faster 3.4 Ghz clock
AMD FX 6300 = Slower clock for clock performance but very good at mutli-threaded applications and game.

Toms Hardware quote - "The FX-6300 fares well in gaming tests, presumably thanks to better multi-core utilization and optimization for AMD's architecture over time. While Intel's Core i3-4130 offers more potential, you won't be able to tell the difference most of the time. On the other hand, the FX-6300 costs $10 less, sports an unlocked clock multiplier, and features six integer cores that unquestionably benefit performance in threaded desktop applications. "

"Intel's Haswell-based CPUs are very capable in games, though we're increasingly seeing dual-core Pentiums lagging behind in our favorite titles. Conversely, benchmark data makes it clear that the company's Hyper-Threading technology is effective in helping improve the performance of Core i3 CPUs in those same blockbusters. Although a locked multiplier limits overclocking to a few-megahertz bump in BCLK frequency, we still consider Intel's Core i3-4130 to be a good starting point for gamers who might upgrade to a faster LGA 1150-based processor in the future. "

Either way you won't be disappointed from gaming angle. I'd go with Multi-core anyday as I've seen most applications and Windows itself running better/smoother on Multi-core configs. Since we multi-task so much nowadays.

Hi Guys,
Posting again after long. i had postponed the plan to upgrade my pc. finally getting a upgrade this week. Also the budget has increased. The final config is :

Core i5 4590 - 13.8K / 4460 - 11.6K
Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H - 5.7 K
Sapphire Radeon R9 270X (September Purchase) - 14.6 K
WD Caviar Green1 TB - 3.6 K
Corsair Vengeance 2 x 4GB - 3200 x 2

As mentioned i will be using this rig only for development, browsing and playing FIFA 15 (and future series). I want your advice
1. Whether for the purpose mentioned above spending 2k extra on 4590 is worth it ?
2. Since ill be only playing FIFA 15 and next versions of the same, is the R9 270X an overkill. ?

1. No paying that extra 2k will not offer you any significant benefit
2. R9 270x will serve you really well. since you already have it, y do you have second thoughts about it?
