Hi all,
I am looking to build a new computer in a budget of 85k, before i start with the question template there are 2 things that i wanted to ask the experts here
1) This is the first time i am buying an AMD processor , i have always used intel. However in this case i am looking for maximum bang for buck. So i need to know if AMD will perform as good for HD gaming?
2) My second and bigger concern is the graphic card, as you shall soon read, i am hoping to buy the GTX580 and will be using it on a gigabyte AMD board, now i know SLI isnt supported on this particular board , Wanted to know if a single GTX580 will run as efficiently on an AM3 mobo as it would run on a X58 chipset mobo. Thank you in advance for your replies/suggestions/tweaks to my build.

Component Model Price

CPU Intel Core i7 2600k 16200

Motherboard MSI P67A-GD55 (B3'ed) 9500

HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB.7200RPM 2700

GPU AMD Radeon HD6950 2GB 17000

Chassis Lancool Dragonlord PCK-62/W 7000

Monitor Dell U2311H 14000

RAM Corsair XMS3 2*2GB DDR3 CL9 2600

Keyboard + Mouse Razer( Cyclosa KB+Abyssus) 2500

Controller Xbox 360 Controller 1200

Mouse Pad Razer Goliathus 900

PSU Corsair TX750 6600

ODD LG GH22NS50 900

Speakers Altec Lansing VS4121 2900

Total 84000

-The Asus P8H67 M EVO @ 9k is a pretty good board too, Suggested MSI since you wanted to avoid Asus, if you are not comfortable with MSI, then Gigabyte P67A-UD3R @ 11k

-The AMD Radeon HD6950 2GB will unlock into a 6970

-The Cabinet + Mouse + Keyboard+Speakers can be tweaked according to your preference, and gives you an extra 1 grand to work with.

-This would pretty much guarantee you pretty good fps, even at FHD.

-You could go with a Noctua NH-U12P SE2 if you switch to normal generic KB+Mouse and drop the mousepad, id est if you are willing to OC.

:cool2:

@OP

Are you sure that you wont be overclocking your system in the future? I am asking this coz you have pretty good budget to build a great rig...

Exactly my concern, maybe he could cut back on the 'k' tag

But yeah 85k and no-OC seems like getting a ferrari and not going over 40k's :bleh:

For your requirements..

Save the money, buy a 2500K instead, close to 10k. Then you can save another 2k easily on the cabint, better to buy a 4-5k cabby and put 3 fans than a 7k cabby with only 2 fans(just my opinion)

Also, it isn't really ever advisable to overspend on the GPU. The HD6950 2GB @ 17k will provide perfect performance @ Full HD resolution with all the eye-candy you can hope for.

The positive outcome of spending less is, when 6 months down the line the next generation comes out, you can again spend say 17k(instead of spending 30k now) and get a GPU which not might consume lesser power, but most definitely perform much much better.

@OP: Leet has suggested a a pretty nifty system. But cut down on SMPS. Anything over a 550V good SMPS is an overkill for a single-card, three hard-disk system. You can go for 2500K. Also save some money by going for slightly cheaper peripherals. Get a generic Keyboard.

Just try to make room for an 80GB SSD. That will benefit you more than a faster processor or an uber SMPS

CPU Intel Core i5 2500k 11250
Motherboard Asus P8P67 Pro (B3 Revision) 12000

GPU Sapphire HD6950 2GB 16500
HDD1 OCZ Vertex II 60GB 6300
HDD2 Seagate 7200.12 1TB 2700
Cabinet CM 690 4300

Mouse Razer Deathadder 2050

CPU Cooler Noctua NH-U12P SE2 3750
Speakers Altec Lansing VS2621 1500
ODD Samsung/ LG/ Sony 850
Total 85550

Intel Core i5 2500k is the best processor for gaming... i7 2600k is good too but performs 20% better than i5 2500k for 50% more price premium... I would advice you to overclock i5 2500k to 4.0GHz @stockvoltage and you would be having a better performing proccy than 2600k...

the motherboard that i've suggested is a great board comes with bluetooth, 8 sata ports (4 x 3gbps + 4 x 6gbps) Usb3 and sli + cfx support...

^^ Is the Dell monitor LED backlit??

And go for a good speaker set :

Altec Lansing VS4121 @ 2900

Also if you're not looking to overclock(or maybe overclock about 400Mhz over stock speeds only) then no point spending on the "k" version..

Like this deal here wll get him MOBO + CPU @ 15.2k itself

http://www.techenclave.com/smc-internl/sand-bridge-i5-2400-intel-original-184214.html

Wait, if that mobo isn't B3 revision, scratch it out.

But still, instead of spending 23k on CPU and MOBO when he wont overclock itself, it's daft.

Spending 80k on a non overclocking rig is not a good idea... I've only suggested him the rig above as he is willing to spend 85k and overclocking k series processors is very easy even op can do it easily... And op i5 2500k @stockclock outperforms 1090t aswell as intels own old generation i7 950/960 processor in gaming...

@comp@ddict
the speakers that you are suggesting has already been discontinued...

hello everybody once again, Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

I said not to overclocking in my original post mainly because i dont know

how to at this point.I will learn/start overclocking in the future , and

thats when i will turn back to you guys for help :) but as for now i just

want to get the rig and catch up on some gr8 gaming

I did look at the i7 - 2600k and the i5 - 2500k and they are indeed superb

processors. However if there be a time at the end of the year (or mebbe

next) where i do decide to upgrade again, there is not guarantee that it

will be supported on the current motherboards (x58 is going to replace the

p55)

i also did some research on the internet and found out that 2500k and

1100t are almost the same price and though the i5-2500k out performs the

phenom at resolutions of 1024x768 in gaming they are at par at full hd

resolutions. (negligible difference of 1 or 2 fps)

The gtx 580 was a difficult choice to make given the number of great

graphic cards out there. Buying a card which will suck half my power is

one thing, But u guys have to agree it IS indeed one hell of a card :)

i was fully aware of the 6950 2gb's shader unlock to the 6970. this is

possible only on the reference card and there is a good chance that they

arnt available anymore.

what i am trying to say is (correct me if i'm wrong) even though the gtx

580 seems overkill right now , 3 years down it will still be playing the

latest games without breaking a sweat and thats what i'm looking for. Also

being a high end card i would be safe to assume the build quality is

great.

I however do think changing the cabinet is a good idea, even though i am

madly in love with the Nzxt Phantom . someone mentioned about having more

fans for cooling. i do plan on upgrading the airflow and water cooling my

cpu (Corsair h-50/70) when i do start to overclock, And the phantom is

perfect for that. i still am open to better cabinets.

another thing i noticed is that the Dell U2311H seems to be everyone's fav

gaming monitor, Do have a look at the one i have mentioned in my rig (BENQ

v2410).i feel its better in terms of powerconsumption and display and

price is the exact same

Anyhow a special thanks to l33t and hades for building a rig for me. I

realy appriciate it.

I am open to furthur suggestions and Ideas. Thanks

Oh ok...

Spending 80k on a non overclocking rig is not a good idea.

exactly why I'm asking him to shave the components down. Instead of a 23k CPU+MOBO compo, buy a 15k compo, there solid 8k saved..

The extra money can be used for an upgrade in 6-10 months...

@op

After two three years whether gtx580 would be able to handle future games @full hd is something neither you nor i can predict. So it would be better if you would buy hd6950 2gb now coz gtx580 is really overkill for gaming @ 1920x1080 resolution plus it is ridiculously priced. And at the pace hardware is evolving after seeing this most people have left thinking about futurproofing the rig. Coz every year something new comes out.

How true this lines? please answer other members.

^^ That is true because at lower resolutions, CPU is more hard pressed. And in terms of CPU architecture and IPC, Sandy Bridge is way ahead of any Phenom. at resolution of 800X640, the difference will be even greater.

GPU starts mattering when you increase the resolution. This is the reason why in most CPU reviews you see games being played at low resolution.

I liked the config suggested by Hades but me being me, i will skip the fancy keyboard+mouse for the time being and get 2x 4GB RAM instead. :)

SB is good for most as is out of the box.

Even if you don't know to OC, Auto Tuning will easily get you to a nice and stable 24x7 OC-

"X58 is going to replace the P55"? didn't get that too. :ashamed:

For gaming, anything above 4GB ram = wastage...

Dont sacrifice on the keyboard and mouse dude, it's the most neglected components of a PC, yet the most used. ..

Do create a thread in the showoff section once your system would be up and running along with some pics... Coz you have to follow the showoff section rule which is "No pics it didn't happen" :p
