Intel Celeron 1.7 Ghz/1.5 GB Ram/40 Gb Hdd/15'' Crt ..The ultimate crap rig! :ohyeah:

Cabinet.. NZXT LEXA S
MOBO.. MSI 890FXA-GD70
CPU.. AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE

CPU Cooler.. Cooler Master Hyper 212

RAM.. G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333MHz
GPU.. MSI HD5870 1GB GDDR5 LIGHTNING

HDD.. Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB

PSU.. Corsair TX850W

Open to suggestions. Will change components accordingly

I've already bought the monitor - Benq-v2400-eco

2x gtx 460 would do a better job than getting 2x 5870s... sli scales much better than crossfire... and this would more likely be in ur budget as well...

750 watts corsair PSU should be sufficient for ur rig...

Get the seagate barracuda 7200.12 much faster than green as green is more for backup not fr the main drive

Rest of ur rig sounds good :D

Try aashirwad in sp road he has all of those components... not sure about the cabby though ull have to check with him...
 
2x gtx 460 does beat a single Radeon 5870 but i'd like to add another 5870 later on when price drops as i'd like to play upcoming games in all its glory. So should i wait for a price drop or get the 2x Gtx 460 instead.

Thats a very nice config Aman. I think i'll settle for that . One question though, does the MSI 890FXA-GD70 support SLi? I've read from certain forums that says that u can't SLi on that board or Amd boards in general. If SLi is possible on that board how to do it?
 
You can't use 2 x GTX460 cards on this MoBo. AMD chipset supports only CrossFire. And since your main objective is gaming then I would suggest Intel system with Core i5 760 processor.

better wait for those ATI 6xxx series cards. if they sell for the price of the current 57xx prices with performance close to 58xx its definitely worth the wait I think.

I would get the GTX 460 1 gb Cyclone and SLI but 5870 in CF will beat 460 sli,but u will get bottle neck in games like crysis 2 and Metro 2033 ,since p55 cant scale both card by x16 bandwith ,i would consider amd on this build if u want sli get thin one then ASUS M4N98TD EVO or if crossfire then this one Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 .
 
I always loved nVidia chipset but since nVidia is not making them any more I resisted from advising them.

- I put in the Basic KB since these gaming Keyboards (~esp.Razer's) have been more of bling bling type than get the work done , if not basic you could get yourself a backlit kb for a better cost

-The case is amazing , Had looked at one first hand , IMHO - very VFM

-GTX460- You could stick with the 768MB ones and save some moolah , makes for a better VFM option

- Mouse pad get yourself a Rantopad H3- About 500 bucks , bang for buck again.

If ur going SLI u need the 1GB cards or else they run out of framebuffer... not a problem for a single card though... for case also consider the HAF series they can easily fit any 2 cards :D

Go for the AMD quad and overclock it... it wont bottleneck the cards no worries... 955 with a nice cooler should do 4.2Ghz easy... the stock takes it to 3.8 easy (tested :p)...

I won't doubt that on Stock AMD can pull itself up but just to be on safe side, would prefer him having a basic third party cooler like atleast a Hyper TX3 plus or better.
