I was just curious whether Geforce 6600 256Mb or the Geforce 6600 GT 128mb would be faster.

Any ideas?

Oops, wrong category, hope you don't mind.

this should go in graphics card section.

Geforce 6600 GT 128mb is always faster than the vanilla 6600. The 256 wont give much performance improvement.

The 6600GT has a core clock speed of 500Mhz vs 300Mhz of the normal 6600. Also the effective memory clock speed is 1000Mhz vs. 550Mhz, so in terms of performance there will be a huge difference.

Here are some links which will help you decide

Here's another vote for the 6600GT. I remember reading somewhere that the memory bandwidth on the 6600 range of cards is not wide enough to truly benefit from 256MB memory. But since you already have a 6600 (as mentioned in your sig), do you think it's really worth your while and money to upgrade to a 6600GT?

The 6600GT is faster because it houses GDDR3 memory - vanilla 6600 cards run GDDR2.

Secondly, a vanilla 6600 with 256mb is noticeably better than the vanilla 6600 with only 128mb.

Thanks for the advice guys!Anyone know is it possible to do some graphics card bios flashing on a 6600?I have heard they do it on 6800's ad X800's

 it doesnt matter if a card has gddr3 or gddr2 memory :p

6800 NU has just gddr1 memory :bleh:

6600GT for sure! The 256MB memory on the vanilla 6600 will make very little difference, and only in some rare cases. In any case, the GT will always top the regular 6600, so no need to even look at the vanilla 6600.

6600 comes with all the 3 ddr1, ddr2 n ddr 3mems not just ddr3 i think so.

GDDR3 & GDDR2 matters ......in 6800 12pipes and 256bit bus compensates for GDDR1 memory ...... as u can see even 16pipe 6800nu doesn't have much better performance from 6600GT :)
