Graphic Cards Geforce 6600 GT problems

Brendon

Forerunner
Hey guys thanks for the suggestions for getting a BIG Geforce 6600 Gt.
However I have problems, BIG problems !

My old 300 W psu refused to work with the card so I had to shell out more money for a Powersafe 400W PSU. However the card still has the same problem.

It just refuses to continue after the Windows loading sign, it just shows a blank screen. I soon found out that when a CD is inside the CD drive,
it refuses to proceed. However if there is no CD inside it USUALLY works. Though even without a CD, it will sometimes randomly hang up or restart.

Also I checked Rivatuner and saw that there were options like 2d clock rates, low 3d clock rates and high 3d clock speeds, and the 2d clock speed was at 300 \1000 Mhz. Wasnt BIG Geforce 6600 Gt ram clocked at 900 Mhz ? Have I inadvertantly overclocked the card ? I am using Forceware 76.44 WHQL drivers.

What I want to know is have I wired the new PSU wrong ? I have put a direct line to the graphics card ( i.e. nothing else is attached ) . I have a line to the Hard disk and cabinet fan and another line on which the CD-RW and DVD ROM. Also I read on the net that you need a minimum 450 W PSU to use
a Geforce 6600 Gt ? Is that true.?

My system config is :
AMD 2400 + thoroughbred
ASUS nforce1
768 MB DDR ram (266 Mhz)
Lieton DVD ROM
Lieton CD - RW
Samsung 80 GB PATA HDD
Creative Live Soundblaster
400 W VIP Powersafe PSU
BIG Geforce 6600 GT

Could someone please tell me what I could do ? Should I return this card ?

No the card is overclocked... The stock speeds of 6600GT is 500/1000... I hope you are not sharing the same line of the PSU with both GFX card and Optical Drive... You should have a seperate line just for the GFX card only... I am also on a 6600GT+2400XP+NF2 and i am using it with a generic 350 Watt PSU and it works fine... Hope this helped...

i had the same problem with nforce1 board with a 6600 plain. u can search for my post. i couldnt solve the problem at all & had to get a new board.

its a useless problem occuring with nforce1 & the gfx cards it gets stuck after ur windows loads & a blank screen comes.

let me know if u get it to work

A7n266 has many issues with the new generation of cards. Update the chipset drivers and use the latest bios and check if those help.

Oh no ! I was afraid of this. I cant really upgrade anything right now. I am using ver 5.10 right now. I will try with older drivers and check again.

@stormblast : You said you got a new board. Did you get another nforce1 board or did you upgrade your entire system ?

Also I just wanted to ask, if I upgrade only my motherboard, how much would a decent (no mercury or adcom !) new nforce2 cost and will any be available ? Besides nforce 2, is there any other chipset that will work without fail with my board. I heard of a foxconn winfast nforce 2 available.

i got a diff board bf. msi k8mm-v for amd64bit

i tried on 2 diff nforce 1 mobos in my cafe. same problem in both. but once it worked & no issues loading windows. but d3d games were ****ed up textures but opengl games were fine. all wierd issues.

i have tried updating bios & trying older drivers etc.

if u can get it to work with some settings please let me know bf, will be appreciated.

u can get a nf2 board it should without any problems on it or u can get the viakt400 boards. dunno the costs.

Actually it usually works after loading IF there is no Cd in the drive. Now I have used my old nforce drivers (the ones that came with my inst cd) and it is working even with a CD with no problems. :)

However before I get your hopes up ( and mine !) , this happened before for about an hour. Even played Brothers in Arms and the game looked amazing !. But then it started hanging. Even after that it rebooted fine, but after 5 minutes hanged again. But so far so good. Ill tell you the driver version if it works for a few more hours.

Hey guys thanks for all the help but no luck. However checked the websites for people having problems with their mbds and geforce 6600 Gt cards.

They said that the updated their AGP drivers and it worked. Could someone please tell me where I can download AGP drivers from ? I searched the ASUS website but could not find them.

I think if nothing works I will have to upgrade my PC next month. Actually Sunny was selling me his ASUS A7N8x - E mbd for a great price. But unfortunately I dont have the cash right now. Still trying to coax my dad.

checkout the drivers Here.

The PSU is not an issue cos i ran my card on a 300W mercury PSU..tho i did buy the powersafe 400W 2 days back to support my extra HDDs.

And the stock frequencies of the AGP 6600 GT is 500/900(3D) while its 300/900 for the 2D.

While overclocking, change only the 3d frequencies...i dont think u can tweak around much with the 2d ones (IMHO).

what the agp drivers means bf is the agp gart drivers that install with the nforce driver pack. it works fine if u dont install agp gart but then without that the card runs in pci mode without agp accell.
