Juggernaut
I picked up a Geforce 6800 form Kev182 yesterday.
The installation went smoothly (Forceware 71.25 v drivers) and windows started up perfectly.

Update: Forgot to mention earlier, but after plugging in the 6800, when I started my PC,I got a new H/W device pop-up for "System Interrupt caller " :O System interrupt caller is still showing up as a uninstalled device in my device manager

However, as soon as I tried to start UT2003, I got an error message saying "Error creating Direct D3D device etc.etc."
Halo also returned a similar error (Hardware acceleration not enabled)

When I ran Dxdiag (DX 9.0c), Direct draw worked fine, however, Direct 3d acceleration tests returned the follwoing error:

"Test failed at step 8: Creating 3d device; Hresult=0x887602eb"

the AGP texture acceleration tab says disabled :(

With my old fx5200, all these games were running perfect albeit with low FPSs (obviously)

The system is XP 2400+ with 512 MB RAM (Hynix 400 mhz) running win XP Pro

The Mobo chipset is Via KM333
I tried upgrading the Via Hyperion drivers, but no-go....The v71.25 drivers (hat came with card was working fine for kev, nevertheless, I'll try the new version tonight....but I doubt if it is going to fix the issue)
Any pointers?

Try cleanimg the old drivers with driver cleaner and then install Nvidia's WHQL drivers. Also if the mobo has a newer biod out then flash to it.

Uninstall both mobo and display drivers.
Use driver cleaner professional edition to clean those traces.
Intall later via 4 in 1. Reboot.
Install newer drivers like 77.77 reboot. And see what happens.
If you still get that message go to Display properties>settings>advanced>troubleshoot and make sure that Hardware accelaration slider is to the full.

just remember when using driver cleaner..

Uninstall>boot in safe mode>clean>restart>install new 77.77 WHQL>restart

maybe you could possibly reinstall DX......

I'm 100% sure its a software problem....and if the reinstalling of mobo/gfx driver doesn't work.....maybe format/reinstall windows?
EDIT: I feel bad its not working :( hope everything works out

this is a software issue.
Happens sometimes. Have you made sure the Hardware accelaration slider is set to full?

Will do tha....
Couple of things that are coming to my mind:
- What could be the reason behind the unknown device, "system interrupt controller" that started after installing the 6800

- Could there be any issues with using a DDR400 RAM on a Via KM333 based mobo which supports only 333mhz RAM

Hooray...I was out for a week for my annual sojourn into the Himalayas (semi-annual this time though)...

:)

Ok le me cut the crap......though I had almost sworn not to do a re-install o fix up stuff.....but in desperation, I finally did that tonight....and ut2004 and Halo are working perfect....hooray again...only regret is i had to do i reinstall which definitely wasn't the best way out and now i can't even pinpoint the probmlem (though fortnately it doesn't exist anymore) :)

Ayyayayayayay :D :D     :hap2: :ohyeah: :clapping:  hyeah:

im so happy :)

Must be a massive difference eh :D 5200>6800 :D

yeah man...huge....on the 5200, i had to play ut at 800*600, no AA/AF, and most settngs turned medium to low......even then, the frame rate would stutter at times.....:S

but the 6800....wow...am loving it.. ..My PS2 is going into the bin tonight.....:ohyeah:

Also, tmrw is payday :ohyeah: so sunday means picking up Farcry an doom3 from spencer's:clap:

Maan, so much of unnecessary headaches, all becoz of this stupind windoze :(

I Wish I was a *nix stud....

Anyway, all's well that ends well
