Generic Host Error, run dll as app Error. Please Help

Hi,
I have windows xp professional in my toshiba laptop. it is working for past 4 year without problem. past week my system does not have sound. I go to control panel and sounds it says device is installed. But when windows bootup and shutdown the chimes sound comes. And also my vlc and games doesn't play sound but my avs dvd players play it. When i try to go to system properties a "run dll as app" error is popping. that is the case when i want to go the system restore. i recently update my computer with windows update. thats when the problem started. my xp is sp2. What is the problem. Kindly help. Every thing other than that is working completly normaly like ie, games an other programs.

well i thought your system can't address some of your devices, but it seems its ok.

ok try this to fix the rundll error which might solve rest of your problems

1. Insert your windows xp cd in your drive

2. go to run > type cmd

3. now type this

expand f:\i386\rundll32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe

here " f " represents your cd drive letter.
