Hey guys i'm thinking of getting a 17" CRT in the next few days , what brand do you guys recommend ?

I've currently shortlisted the Samsung Magicbright plus 798MB+ *http://www.samsung.com/in/products/...rightrange/798mbplus.asp?page=Specifications*

& the Viewsonic E72f *http://www.viewsonic.com.sg/products/productspecs.php?id=194*

both of these are purely based on the techtree reviews ( I havent actually seen these monitors in action yet ).

Let me know if there are other better brands around.

My budget is around 7k max (anymore & i know i would end up with a 15"LCD)

The monitor will be used mainly for gaming & watching movies, i'm not a

hardcore gamer mostly play at 1024*768 res. I'm leaning towards the

samsung cause of their ASS. Would be getting this monitor ASAP so plz let me know.

Cheers ,

Between the 2 you mentioned the Samsung 798MB is a no brainer!!:P

Coz it can do 1280x1024 at 75hz, max of 1600x1200!!:D
Others do 1280x1024 at 64odd, that too its the max, making that res inappropriate for use!!:@

So IMHO, the 798MB, coz then even at 1024x768, it will be relatively unstressed!!:cool2:

Also check the King of 17" CRTs- courtesy UDIT!!:ohyeah:
viewsonic G76f+sb(flat+silver/black)!!

Check This>http://www.techenclave.com/forums/the-king-of-17-inch-monitors-67844.html?highlight=UDIT

slightly pricier but can handle 1600x1200 at 77hz!!:O
No ones gonna use that on a 17" but makes lower res much more unstressed for the monitor to handle, i think!!
Thats marginally better than even some 19inchers i know!!

also there used to be an Acer 17" CRT- the AF715, that could handle 1600x1200 at 75hz!!

Err no bikey it cant do more than 1280X1024. And even that it does only at 65 Hz. But if 1024X768 is what u need it, it does 1024X768@85 Hz.

If u want more than 1280X1024 go for the G76 or Acer AF715. Availability is an issue tho and i couldnt get them so i settled for the 798MB.

Thanx for all the info guys, anyone on this board got a G76, some feedback on its performance would be great.

Also guys whats the minimum res this monitor supports cos the lowest mentioned in the specs sheet is 1152x864@104Hz, isn't this an odd resolution, will all the games support this resolution?

With my 9800pro don't think i'll be using any higher res than this atleast for time being , infact i may have to scale down to 800X600 for the the upcoming games, hope that it supports it.

Else will have to get 798MB or E72f which support 1024X768@85Hz & 90Hz resp & 800x600@112Hz for the viewsonic, the 800X600 for samsung isn't mentioned, could u tell me abt it hunt3r ?

Didn't like the way samsung looks with the patterned front end(atleast according to the pics), the E72f+SB also seems a bit bulky to me.

Guys will be getting the monitor this weekend probably so any feedback would be deeply appreciated.

Cheers

Yea no probs there, resolution can be changed to whatever required, 800 X 600, 640X480 or even lower if need be. And abt the looks yea when i bought it it, i was a bit concerned abt the looks, but the design dosent look bad. But if u dont like it there the LG flatron E700 also available, check that out.
