Hi,
Just a few questions which are bothering me a lot.As you all know the prices of hardware in india really suck.Either they are too expensive or some sub-standard stuff sold for higher rates.Now i was browsing newegg.com and found the prices to be good.Now many quetions bother me:
1)Say if i have a relative in US and i ask him/her to get a RAM,Processor,Graphic Card and a Motherboard,Will he have to pay customs?
If so around what percentage?
2)Does newegg.com do international shipping,Searched a lot in that site but could not find it.If it does how much do you think the price of shipping will be?
3)Say in case a friend or relative gets it from US via the baggage,Will it be safe?considering how they are handled at airports?

If there are other suggestions plz help me.
Regards

PS: Since I'll be getting the E6300 from here and the prices of the below products are ridiculously eXpensive

I plan to get CORSAIR VALUE SELECT 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)
System Memory
CORSAIR VALUE SELECT 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM System Memory - Retail at Newegg.com
Will this be good for the E6300 i plan to buy?

along with

and
ASUS P5B Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
ASUS P5B ATX Socket T (LGA 775) Intel Motherboard - Retail at Newegg.com

So plz help me.I'm in a fix:huh: :huh: :huh:

No use getting value ram from the US... you can get 1GB value ram here for nearly the same price. I generally don't recommend getting motherboards either since they alongwith psus are the most likely components to die. Whether u'll be charged duty or not depends completely upon the luck of the person returning. If he gets caught by the customs dudes, expect to pay some duty. (or underhand money :P) Generally a bottle of cheap perfume or a bar of chocolate is enough :P. But in the worst case u'll be charged 10-15% duty.

When you get a chance to buy memory in the US, buy the right memory :)

Based on your memory selection above, I'd say $120 is your budget, so why don't you stretch that to $125 and get this GeIL 1GB DDR2-800 kit that's rated 4-4-4? And if you have no budget, get the equivalent kit from G.Skill for $140.

Graphics card: Spend a bit more and get a 7600GT for about $140.

Motherboard: As Chaos said, you're better off buying one with local warranty, but if you really know what you're doing or if you will not be overclocking, it is safe to buy it in the US... I still have my P5GDC Deluxe from the US, about a year old now and still in perfect working condition.

Hope this helps...

I guess if the open the seal on box packing, they can get it through without duty.

This answers your query. This is shown when you check out after select a product.

Newegg.com does not offer International/Canadian shipping options at this time.

I missed nj's question on customs... I make sure to carry all components in my hand baggage, easier to explain to officials if they have a question. At one time I carried a notebook, motherboard, digital camera and 2 HyperX memory kits in my hand baggage - I paid nothing :) At Singapore, they thought I was carrying 2 notebooks because they saw the board in the scanner, but once I showed them it was a motherboard they were cool.

Hi,
First of all thanks to everyone for replying

@Chaos
Why should not to get the motherboard from the USA?Will it get damaged?Or is there incompactabilty with their electric current rates and ours?Like ours is 50Hz and theirs is diff??
Motherboard: As Chaos said, you're better off buying one with local warranty, but if you really know what you're doing or if you will not be overclocking, it is safe to buy it in the US.

@Rio
Well why cant't i overclock the P5B,i mean i'm taking it mainly because of the oveclocking power of that card.The indian price of that board is around 11K,atleast thats wat i've heard,So therefore i wanna get it from the US.and what does "rated 4-4-4" mean?

@ThunderBolt
Well since i won't be getting it personally since i've asked my auant to get it,So i doubt she'll remove the seal and stuff.Thats one of the things which worries me-How will she handle the above products?? Is the packaging good enough?
BTW i can wait till the end of this month as she plan to come here during diwali.So by then Will P5B be available at a reasonable rate or is it better off to get it from USA?Or is there any online stores that do international shipping?

Regards

lol...nothing like that.....just that mobos are more prone to dying than other stuff like CPUs, etc.....

So, in case it dies, it is easier to get a replacement if it is bought in India.

Chaos' point about getting a board locally is in case it craps out on you, replacement will not be an issue. Hard drives and boards have a higher failure rate than other components so he was suggesting you get it locally so service isn't a problem.

I was advicing you against overclocking much because of the same problem... warranty :) The timings for the memory kit I suggested is rated 4-4-4 which is pretty good for memory running at 800MHz... it's better than what you wanted to get in the first place.

Take the risk. And to hell with Customes....so far every item that I have ever brought in has not had any issues. Of course there must be a few of us here who travel with everything they own...customs are going to certainly be on their ass...
Just tell your aunt to make sure that the bill is there too. Customes may just check for the value and let you pass..

Not sure about cheap bottles of perfume.....its a good way of screwing the country further!

Ok,Guess i'llask her to get it,Anyways just a few more questions:
1)Since i'll be getting a zebronics Antibiotic cabinet,Is it necessary to get the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler - Retail at Newegg.com) as i plan to overclock so just wondering.
2)As of now cause of the security threats,I heard that many electronic gadgets aren't allowed,So i wanna know whether the above products will pass through the check?
3)Will the normal packaging protect the products from the normal shocks,You know the baggage being thrown about?
4)Shall i wait for the mobo(Asus P5B) to stabilize?I mean in b'lore its around 11K,But in US its $157 thats roughly Rs7400?And Just stick to getting the RAM and GFX card?
Regards

1. Get something better :D What's your budget?

2. As I said earlier, carry all this stuff in your hand baggage and you will get a chance to explain what it is...

3. If you follow my advice in #2, this question does not even arise :D

4. If you are ok with not having local warranty, just get the board from the US. Prices for these boards in India are not going to reduce anytime soon, and if they do reduce, it will be by 1k or so.

@Rio
Well as i said i won't be carrying the stuff and i'm sure she'll be carrying a lot of other stuff,So thats why i'm kinda indecisive.My budget for the whole computer is within 45-47K with taxes(Everything included).So do i require that Cooler?

Well, the stock cooler for the Core 2 processors aren't that great, so if you're overclocking, get a better cooler... I'd recommend the Tuniq Tower 120 from CoolPC AU - Funky and Karan have ordered their Tuniq Towers from there, and total cost is under 4k I believe.

For the most part, your relative should not have trouble carrying these components, so go ahead - just ask them to carry invoices.

@Rio
thanks for the help ;)
Your sure na the prices won't decrease and i won't have much trouble with the products?i.e,If they are defective my Dad will skin me alive!!!
He's already a bit skeptic about getting from USA

Also do i get DDR2 667Mhz or 800Mhz as i heard not much difference b/w them.My budget for them is around $120 for a 512X2 Kit any suggestions?

1. If you and/or your dad is skeptical, just get a board locally - there are a few 1-2 week old ones on sale in the Market section, and they come with local warranty :)

2. About prices dropping, I don't know... my guess is it will not drop by a lot even if it does.... as more boards release, prices are bound to go down but I can't determine if it will and by how much.

3. bleh, who said no difference between DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 :D If budget permits, dump the model I posted earlier in this thread and get this kit with your eyes closed. I'd recommend getting the 2GB equivalent of this kit, however ;)
