How do u get the max performance in games like cs 1.6 and dota on the DM1-z?
I am getting around 50 fps on cs 1.6 tht is quite low for me compared to my rig where i get a constant 100. :(

does 50fps and 100fps make any difference in gameplay? i don't think so!!!

In CS, it makes a lot of difference. :chair:

If on a laptop, anything 60 and above fps should be enough. Since that is the rate at which the LCD/LED screen refreshes!
Can you make it more clear, technically?

Ideally you should be getting 100fps in cs 1.6 and 60fps in dotA.

Ensure the following settings in the game and in ATI catalyst control center:

VSync: OFF

Anisotropic filtering: OFF

Anti-aliasing: OFF

If it doesnt make things better, try editing the CS1.6 cfg file after making a backup. Here are the recommended console commands:

If it doesn't solve the lag, try this

cl_updaterate 20

cl_cmdrate 20

rate 25000

fps_max 60

net_graph 3

If you're not getting any choke or lag, up the cl_updaterate by 5 until it starts to choke or lag, then lower it by 5. Do the same for cl_cmdrate. And then you can try upping your fps_max to like 70 or if you really want to try 101. That's the max you can do. Just when you change the fps_max you kinda gotta start over with the other settings. But leave the rate at 25000.

Due, you wrote whole config!! What has got voive commands and net_graph to do with lag? There are hardly some commands which promote/demote lag. Plus rates show diff mostly in online gaming, not much in lan gaming. plus, fps_max should be 100 not 60.

Have u tried changing the settings in ATI catalyst control center in the 3D quality and performance setting part by changing the slider to performance from the quality side which is the default setting?

^^Some old quake engine games have funny relationships between physics and frame rate.

The in game physics for player motion depends on frame rate.

There was this particular place in quake 3 where there was a mega health and you could get it with a simple jump *only* if your frame rate was exactly 125fps.

Lame but true!

There was a reason JC capped the frame rate to 60fps in doom 3 and beyond. It was simply to avoid such oddities.

@Chaos: rightly said. in cs 1.6 which is based on quake engine it matters a lot when u have 50 fps and your opponent has 100 fps. (i played on a ibm thinkpad with 40-50 fps for a long time before moving on to a desktop with 100fps constant)
