I was looking to buy an iPhone 4 and noticed that there is a significant price difference between the factory unlocked and the Gevey Sim unlocked one. So I thought that a Gevey Sim feedback thread would be usefull to a lot of people.

Gevey works on all firmware and basebands including the beta of iOS 5. I was wondering if people can post their experiences with the Gevey sim.

Questions:
Do you experience dropped calls? Which network are you on? Can you use Edge/3G? Is it too big a hassle to unlock everytime you reboot? :P

Any response will be helpful. :)

Using gevey since quite sometime now and apart from the once a week restart which I do just for the battery drainout there is nonsuch real problem. Also the sinal catches on in the third try if you are not really good at it. All in all a great product if you are stuck with a locked iPhone 4. You just need to follow the steps to make it catch the signal

Well the factory unlocked 32gb is close to 36K and the Gevey unlocked one is 30K. Which one would you suggest? Since Gevey will 99% work on iOS 5 I don't think upgrades will be a problem, as we can always preserve the baseband. I can also do with the minor hindrance of doing those steps when we reboot.

My main concern is network availability and call quality. If those are good then Gevey is the way to go.?

Gevey Sim is more of a last resort for people who have been stuck with a locked iPhone . If you are buying a new phone I strongly suggest getting a factory unlocked one .If not 32GB , get the 16GB . The Gevey sim does work perfect if you have an original one as stated above by Switch but if you end up with a poor quality one there are lot of chances of signal drops or even the Gsim not working at all after few weeks .A friend who spent ~2k for a Gevey Sim was in a soup when it totally stopped working(wont unlock after following the procedure) after 10-15 days and the shopkeeper refused to provide a replacement .Not really worth the hassles of saving 4-5k ,IMO ;). Get factory unlocked , get the peace of mind :D
