I am facing this crazy issue while gaming on my pc. Please check the video.

HD 5850 Flickering Issue - YouTube

AMD Athlon II X3 440 ( Unlocked to Phenom)
6 GB DDR3 RAM
1 TB HDD
Corsair VX 450
XFX HD 5850 with Catalyst 11.8 drivers
MSI 785GM-E51 with updated BIOS

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, have reseated the card. This issue doesnt happen while watching movies/browsing. It only happens when I game.

I tried to swap the 5850 with my spare Sapphire Radeon 5670 and there are no issues. Also during all this flickering, the game remains active and the system doesnt crash. If i close the game, i can work normally on the pc. Is there something wrong with my gfx card? I am running out of options. Please advise.

Does this thing happen only when you play battlefield or other games too...??

I am absolutely sure that its time to RMA your GPU if in warranty :)

This is not limited to just BFBC2 it also occurs with other games and this is not consistent, can happen any time. If I am not playing games, then there are no issues. I will definitely try this in some other pc. If it happens in that too, i will go for RMA. I hope Rashi people don't harass un-necessarily.

Also try latest drivers on the other pc while testing and good luck with rashi, hope they will rma the gpu quickly.

Here are some more steps that I tried:

1) I first swapped my card and installed it in another system which has similar specs to mine including the same Motherboard. The card worked perfectly fine in that system, through which I concluded that the GFX card is good.

2) Then I changed my power supply with the one which worked perfectly on another system, however the flickering was still present, so I concluded that my Corsair PSU is fine.

3) Thereafter I swapped my RAM, which again did not resolve the issue, so it meant that the RAM is fine too.

4) Thereafter I swapped my CPU, which again did not make any difference.

So I guess its the Motherboard or to be precise the PCI-E slot. However, the pc works fine when I am not gaming, so I guess the PCI-E slot is unable to provide enough power to the GPU. Please let me know if there is something else I can do to isolate the issue.

Note:-I have the most latest BIOS as per MSI available BIOS versions.

**********Update***********

Guys I have fixed the issue by a makeshift solution. Ran Furmark for close to an hour, no more flickering issues. Though it looks ugly, but no cost. So I am good with it. Check out the solution in the image.

Tricky situation, only thing which is left to do is installing some other 5850 in your system.
But dont you think if the 5850 worked in other system just fine, the card is fine. That system had the same motherboard.

I had the exact same issue, tried everything like u did, and ultimately formatted my system and re-installed the OS, works perfect now :D

Just a hunch, but try using 4 pin Molex to Pci-express that may have come along with your card, instead of directly using 6 pin pci-e from your vx450.

I can see that you are using a CM Elite 430 over there. Is the graphics card screwed to the case at the back? If it is, the I don't see how it can be loose.
