i recently bought a gainward 6600gt (ultra 1960xp )GOLDEN SAMPLE EDITION..with the VIVIO(video in video out ) feature......with the card..i have got a bunch of cables...that can be used for various functions..but i am not understanding which cable is for which function...so it would ber very helpful if u can help me out .....

also the card supports video capturing..and at TV can be used as the output instead of the..monitor....the cable looks ..very small and i think..some extra cables..are needed to connect it..to the TV etc...??

so please tell me..how will the whole thing work out..video capturing..and TV as output...(i THINK S-video works...but is there any other better connection to TV)...

THE CABLES ARE AS FOLLOWS :

ONE END GOES TO THE VIDEO CARD..WHILE OTHER END HAS ALL THESE CONNECTIONS :

GREEN: Y OUT /COMP. out

ORNAGE : COMP IN

RED : Pr OUT

BLUE : Pb OUT

BLACK :S-VID OUT

please tell me the function of each of these above connetors --

also will i need some extra connectors to connect the TV etc.

Didn't you get a manual with the card. It should have all the information needed. I used to have a Asus V3400 VTR card which has TV-Out and Video capture. But there were only 4 connections on that card.

Composite Out (TV-Out)

Composite In (Video In for Video capture)

S-Video Out (TV-Out)

S-Video In (Video In for Video capture)

S-Video is supposed to be better of the two. But I could not try it as I did not have a s-video pin on my TV.

You also seem to have two extra connections to make use of YPrPb. As far as I know the three cables are to be used in conjuction to send out Y-Luminence, Pr-Red and Pb-Blue signals. But How they are to be connected to TV, I have no idea.

If your TV and Video-In device support s-Video, then use it. Other wise you can get the composite cables which evey TV and Video Out device supports. You can get the required cables from any Audio Video shop.

actly..i got a second hand card so i have no MANUAL..any more info...need some more details...anyone ??

mine is a SONY wega triniton 29 " ...IT COMES WITH ALL THE common DVD Connections..and audio video...and one more connector ..which looks exactly like ..the S - vid connector in my gfx card cables ...

so how do i connect the TV to PC...to play games....will S-VID be good ??

means..the one end in gfx card..and the other in TV's video connector ..??

plzz..tell me i have no idea...

Use the s-video. Get yourself an s-video cable from an AV shop and use it connect the card to the TV. If you are not comfortable with s-video, then use the composite out. You will find the compostite AV jacks on every tv. there will be 3 jacks, 2 for audio and one for video. just connect the cable to the video jack. Also be careful. Iam not sure whether TV-out and video-in are both suported at the same time. Try the TV-out first.
Didnt see @thexfactor's post. That guide should be helpful to you..:)

Hi :D The best picture quality is got through component video. Thats the Red Green and Blue jacks on your graphics card cable. They connect to your TV's component input. On the TV, this will be labelled as either "Y-Pb-Pr" or "DVD Input". Do not confuse it with the (Yellow Red White) inputs on your TV. Those will probably be labeled as "AV in" or "composite in"

Now, the cable you've shown in the pic, one end naturally goes into your gfx card. Then you'll need to get component video cable from any electronics shop. This is a set of three cables joined together, with red, green and blue connectors. If you don't get them, then just get 3 "Composite" cables. A composite cable is a single cable with yellow connectors on both ends. If the shop guy doesnt understnd you, tell him you want to connect DVD player to TV.
Now, its just a matter of connecting everything up. Most important thing is to NOT mix up the red/green/blue on the TV and PC.
After this, you also need to connect audio. ( i.e. if you want the audio to come from TV). For this you need a RCA to stereo mini cable (also found in electronics shops). It will have a red and a white connector at one end, which go into your TV's red and white (audio in).

After everything is hooked up, you have to make sure to select the correct input on your TV.

@Zhops - Isn't S-video better than composite??

Edit - Oops thought you talkin abt composite not component

i got a extra cable tht..i have got....from my old gfx card which had a s video cable pins connector at one end...and a single video (like VCD ) at the other end..
also i saw the back pannel connectors of my TV.... there are the three (red blue green) jacks..for the dvd..and a dvd channel on my TV.
so i want to ask ..now so the best video quality will be on the component video (ie : red blue green to red blue green)
or the s -video..??
also how much will the component..video connector cable set cost ??(RBG TO RBG)???

temporarily...i will try s-vid..and then go for component ..vid after..i get the set?
will there be much difference betweeen the two ??
and the other question...
how is video capturing from my TV to PC ..possible..with ths card ?as the card specificatins..suggest video capturing..using VIVO ??

sorry..guys for reopening my old thread..but now i need to make use the VIVO feature of the card..again . and thought tht instead of posting all pics an info the card again why not continue in this thread..which can deal with all type of connections possible with a VIVO card.

PLEASE have patience..and read the whole Ramayana i ve written below..

now i have a sony DCR HC 36 E handy cam..which records video on a mini DV tape. i have around 2 tapes completely filled. and and want to transfer them to a PC ..but the USB streaming and capturing dratically reduces the quality

drastically. making the video look crappy though the video quality is quiet nice(when i directly connect to TV and play it looks really awesome ) almost equal to VCD quality..if not DVD. .now i want to get the vid on to my PC from the tape without much compromise on quality which is not possible by USB capture.

and the other supported capturing output..is I link ie.fire wire. which is not there in my PC and i will need to buy a PCI firewire card for arnd 500 bucks.

or the other option left is to give it in a studio where the convert the tape to VCD .for 150 per 60 mins...of video.and still they too compromise on quality most of da time .(tht's what i ve heard. from frnds. )

1)

so i want to ask if it's possible to connect the handycam using a 6600gt 's VIVO capability and capture the video without compromise on quality like in firewire. i have the cables tht are shown above along with a normal video to

s -vid. cable tht i got along with my old MX4000....and the normal red, yellow ,White to the handycam connection cable for connecting to TV....

will i need to buy some extra cables so tht i can capture without compromising on quality.

2) if the above is not possible i will surely have o buy a FIREWIRE card..and then capture using the card..but if i get tht for say arnd 450 bucks..will isave my money of everytime giving it in a photo studio for making a VCD ?

do the photo studio people also use the same firewire capturing/transfer or they have some more modern and better techniques ...

more detailed specs of the various outputs available on the handycam.

Analog Audio/Video Input(s) N/A

Analog Audio/Video Output(s) Yes Multi A/V

Digital Audio/Video Input(s) Yes via i.LINK

Digital Audio/Video Output(s) Yes via i.LINK

USB Port(s) Yes (1.1 compliant)

i.LINK Interface Yes

S-Video Output(s) Yes (optional accessory)

thank u ..

all kinds..of help and experience regarding the above situation will be appreciated.....from the audio/video specialist as well as others..who have any info.

Get a PCI firewire card ... it'll allow you to capture the video in RAW format i.e highest quality afaik :)

Honestly what ive experienced is that VIVO also doesnt work as well as firewire does. I also happen to have the Gainward Golden Sample 6600 GT

So, buy an el-cheapo firewire card with 2 firewire ports (shouldnt cost more than 250) if you're in Delhi .. then go to this shop called DAGA infotech near SMC in Nehru Place, Buy the card from either enter or F-line (cheapest one) but, dont buy any other coz I one time had to change the card thrice with a no name company.
