Thanks to everyone for all the replies. Answers a lot of things. The picture's pretty clear now.

Basically at this stage, any phone other than a top tier Co. is a gamble. As to whether it's worth the gamble is for an individual to decide.

1. Yes, in the case of Chinese re-branded phones, the Chinese OEM companies are No-Name or very little known. The quality is not par with ZTE, Huawei (can't say about Alcatel).
2. The chinese names like ZTE, Huawei and Alcatel etc. are not at all par with Samsung, Nokia and LG. Many TEins bought ZTE and it was a particular model (ZTE Blade) because it had nice support and was relatively cheap as we didn't had these many options 2 years ago.

Chinese manufacturer like Oppo, Xiaomi may be able to compete with Samsung and its likes
Lol mate ZTE is one of the biggest manufacturers in the world.. Also ZTE can compete with Samsung. I used 2 ZTE phones.

ZTE BLADE and Orange San Francisco II(Blade 2).

ZTE is 5th in the league after samsung, Apple, LG & Lenovo.

But are figures such as these an indication of the quality of the product? I'm not questioning the assumption that ZTE is good/bad. I hardly know anything about phones or tech to be doing that. But I remember something about Mmx being close to Samsung in terms of shipment or similar in India. Now we all know that the Mmx quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Again, not questioning you. Just curious as to what a reliable indicator is. Maybe, the distinction to be made with respect to the above is the fact that you're talking about global figures & I'm not......?

Samsung currently has a market share of 26 percent, MMX now has a 22 percent market share which is much closer to Samsung. Karbonn is the second Indian-manufacturer which is on the top five list with a 13 percent market share.

But wherever MMX (or Karbonn) is in India, they are not the manufacturer, whereas Samsung is. All these Chinese companies like ZTE, Huawei, Lenovo are in fact the manufacturers too.

So the quality of MMX handsets reflects the quality of the product they are importing from China. And they import devices mainly from no-name manufacturers of China and not from bigger names like ZTE or Lenovo.

No, its an indication of the market share ZTE holds in the global market as of June.

Can one indirectly assume if ZTE is in the top 5 in terms of sales they make good products. Maybe. But we can say ZTE has been successful enough to be in the top 5.

I don't know how you would assess the quality of a product. What criteria should we use. Or state so and so company makes good products or bad products (for that matter).

Quality to me sounds like a marketing term, if a product is good or bad its relative to something else.

Gionee like quite a few other Chinese Phone Manufacturers- is enamored with size ZERO phones- slim- thin- but this also results in a puny 2000 mAh batteries driving 5inch full HD Screens thru a power hungry Quad Core Processor- resulting in Paucity of critical battery power. If a phone like this to be used as a SMART PHONE- goodby to battery charge by 4 PM..My Galaxy Note 2 with its 3100 mAh. Battery is ready for the charger by 9 PM.. what is the use of a dead sleek, svelte phone with a dead battery ?..wake up GIONEE..then also why pay Rs 22500 for this when u can get a Galaxy Note 2 from Samsung with the best After Sale service in thousands of places all over India -and Best screen ever- for just Rs 4000 more ? Just unilateral price fixation does not sell phones- there is a thing called market reality..
Just so we know, at what price point would you like to see the Gionee Elife E6 at ?

Also could you please guide me to where can I get a Note II for 26,500 please
