Been using You Telecom for about 6 months. Have the 12mbps, 375GB plan which I paid 12K for. Problem is that they have lots of downtime, and sometimes for even a full day long. When it works, the speeds are great and I DL at 1000+KB/sec, buut when they are down, I need to use my 3G connection as a hotspot.

Planning to switch to Airtel, and was wondering what the downtimes of Airtel are. If they do not have much downtime, I'll give up the You connection, but if Airtel has lots of downtime, I was thinking of keeping the You, with maybe a 3K per year plan and set it up as a back up connection [already have a spare router].

So, should I give up the You, or keep it as a back up connection?

BTW, usage in the house is about 2GB per day, so with Airtel I was thinking of getting the 4mbps, 75GB plan @ 1700/- per month. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the info? Personal experiences?

I use Usenext mostly for downloads. Maybe that will work on Airtel? It's not really torrent downloads.

Just know that if you switch to Failtel, torrents may not work.

I am using Airtel for the past 10 years, I have had no problems with dloading torrents.

Airtel may have a lot of issues, like crappy FUP and incorrect billing, but reliability and CC is their strength, the Airtel connection has hardly been down in the entire journey with them.

i guess BSNL is not a bad idea too. check thier tariffs and availability (will be avaialable mostly - 99.9%) at your place. I am using a 4mbps connection for 1350 with 30GB FUP in hyderabad. my ping and download is the best and is complete VFM.

I had beam 10 mbps for 1K connection before which sucked both with the CC and frequent outage and the ping was worse than my current 4mbps bsnl connection.

Also, the BSNL guys at my place turn up to fix the issue in 2 hrs of me raising a complaint and there is hardly any downtime.

BSNL is like a hit or miss affair,in some areas their service is good and in others it's shit!!

my line had severe issues,i never got a stable connection, internet would frequently get disconnected

sometimes it would persist for hours or even days

I complain and they don't even bloody turn up to repair it soon, they take their own sweet time

now am gonna surrender the line!!

so before taking up a bsnl check in your area,if the service provided there is reliable enough!

Thanks guys. BSNL? Like someone said, hit or miss. I have had horrible service when it was not working, and even now my landline gives me hell. Planning to ditch the landline and just stick to Airtel for both landline and broadband.

That's what I am looking for - reliability. I'll pay 1700/- for 4mbps, 75GB, get 300/- worth of calls free, cancel BSNL [saving 465/- per month], and I doubt that I will cross 75GB. In fact, I'll ask my brother to give up his 10GB connection and use mine. His usage will be about 5-8gb per month only, and he will save a 1000/- per month too.

I was on the 1mbps day and 2mbps night plan with 100GB FUP, I just gave a request to switch to 4mbps with 30GB FUP. Trust me Airtel reliabiilty is awesome, you wont have any issues, go ahead.

For reliability go for Airtel ,slightly costly plans though. Also forget about torrenting.

I will give +1 to Airtel on reliability & very very less downtimes.

Even 2-3 yrs back, when underwater optical fiber was disrupted in Atlantic Ocean, i got refund for few days in my bill for unavailability of service during those days.

But they charge you insanely as compared to other ISPs.

Got Airtel yesterday, and can confirm that torrents work fine. Speeds are sloweer, but then I have a 4mbps versus the 12 mbps of the You telecom.

Edit: You is much faster though, so I guess I'll keep both connections. Take a 30gb per month Airtel and some yearly You telecom I guess.
