Gmail for your domain = killer!

Killer concept but implementation is even better... I've set it up for 2 of my personal domains and boy does it kick ass, literally. Very easy to set up and migrate as well. If you're interested, go to https://www.google.com/hosted/ and request an invite to the beta... received my invites after a month or so, but since they're live, so you should receive yours in a week.

The only problem for domains with Indian hosting companies is changing the DNS and MX records are not part of your control panel... so one of my domains with thewebartist is stuck until I move to networksolutions or godaddy :(

What's even more brilliant is now I've integrated 3 email addresses in my primary Gmail account... in effect, all email gets delivered to 1 account and I can choose which email address to reply from :) I was using Outlook all these years to manage multiple email addresses, and I've had enough trouble with my .PST files getting corrupt, having to back them up every week etc. was a big pain... with 3gb storage (almost) in Gmail, I have no worries about taking regular backups....

rio i'm a little bit lost what exactly is this and how does it helps a little light for this noob.
i tried filling it up does it needs to have a own site or something i mean domain or bla bla or anyone can fill it up.

Well, since it's Gmail for your domain, you first need to have a personal domain/s. Gmail doesn't offer hosting (not yet) so you'll need to have your domain hosted with one of the many hosting companies.

If you have a personal domain, you can use Gmail to manage your email/s instead of doing it through your hosting account... many reasons: 1, gmail rocks but more importantly, I can have 2gb space for each email account as opposed to the standard space allocated by the hosting company (which is always low), plus email accounts for my domain get to have gmail functionality :)

gotcha ^^^^ had a hosting anyways thinking of getting one more soon though i think i have some free access lets see :P.
thnks for clearing it reps :D

This is sweet news, no more worries about backing up emails or inbox chewing up limits on any 3 day holiday from work, no more worries of requesting to resend mails.

Last time I used email of my biz domain, I had to request every other guy to send mails with bigger attachments to my gmail account. This really is sweet news.

But isnt it same as setting POP in my gmail???

Uhmmm no... because popping email from another email is one thing, but being able to pop, reply and send new mail from multiple email addresses or identities is something else... example, I have 4 email addresses and I use MS Outlook to manage all my identities, but my pain points are taking regular backup because PST files start to get corrupt once they are larger than 1GB... in that case, I split my PST files by year or email address or category and that gets time-consuming and tiresome.

Google just solved all these problems and more for me... hell, I don't mind paying $10 a month for 1TB (which I'm sure they will come up in a few months ;))

Its already up for me.

Ive done it for TradeMarc Gaming.

Its cool.

Even overlapping accounts can be made. Like the same with the original domain names.

I have 2 aditya[at]trademarc-gaming[dot]com :P

MS also provides a similar service. I am waiting for google to invite me. Most of these beta sevices are not too inclined to invite people from India.

Not true, as I have got invites for every Beta service that was launched and the country always selected was India.

I had setup my domain to use gmail a week ago. Currently testing as the free version allows only 50 accounts. The interface is kewl but in certain cases like creating and then login into each account to enable POP3 is boring. They should allow doing that through CSV files. Also it's a little troublesome while creating user and group aliases.

Also it does not allow plain SMTP/POP3 and you will be forced to use SMTPS/POP3S and incase you are using Linux mail server on qmail, postfix in your SOHO and use fetchmail to deliver mails locally then this guide helped me to configure it successfully:

Gmail on Home Linux Boxes using Postfix and Fetchmail

Regards.

Hey i am using it and it sure is awesome... Google is giving so much for free. Its business plan is just the opposite of MS. Give for free what others are charging money for
