Hi guys, a very good friend of mine is interested in GMAT, but confused when to give exams, admissions etc. He is totally new to GMAT.

He will complete his graduation [Bachelor of Engineering] in June 2012, so if he writes for GMAT in Sept 2012, can he get into admissions in same year ? basically he don't want to waste a year after graduation. Otherwise, he can write exams in this year of september. Please guide for the correct way.

Also MBA in US is cheaper than London ?

Thanks in advance :)

If your friend has no prior work experience, there's not a single decent MBA program in the US or UK that would be willing to admit him.

The GMAT score however is valid for 5 years IIRC.

The best option in his case would be to go for a Masters program from any of the top universities (provided he has the marks for it). MBA without work-ex abroad in the top universities is not possible.

Ask him to get 2-3yrs of work exp from any company. He needs to get involved in as many extra curricular activities as possible. And have good rapport with the manager. His recommendation is needed. He can take up GMAT after 2 yrs and start applying for colleges once he finished 3 yrs exp. Ask him to utilize this time to build his profile.

Getting into Asian colleges like NUS, NTU, AIM is cheaper and they are recognized throughout asia. Your returns for investment will also be good.

From what I've heard they are very difficult to get into but worth the effort if you do! :)

Guys first of all thank you very much for replying :)

So he cannot get into good universities without job experience ? No chance at all ? His engineering CGPA is 8.0. And how much his ideal GMAT score should be ?

Also what are good courses ? My lecturer once said there are 125 different MBA courses, but we couldn't find any ! He has also mentioned MBA in Salsa, as my friend does know how to Salsa, he was interested in it. But after few online searches we couldn't find any info about it. He also interested in Networking, are there any MBA courses ? Or MBA is just all about HR and Marketing ?

PS - We are both studying in Comp Science.

No chance at all. Having at least 2 years of work ex will make him eligible to apply, however most of the good schools need around 5 years or so. As for the GMAT score, it tends to vary. Last year LBS (which is #1 in the world presently) accepted people between 600-780 however unless you have an exceptional profile, 750+ is more like what one would need to get into such schools.

As for the latter part of your query, an MBA program is designed not to be very specific and rather to give you all round skills. You do however pick a specialisation in your second year but I've never heard of an MBA in networking or salsa- that just sounds absurd.
