Available at Techzone. Rs.1.8k for 1650 and 2.4k for 1655 lightscribe.
I will speak to him again once i know a final quantity for a final rate.

I thought BenQ stopped making drives :| /sold off to Sony...

so are these old stock pieces?
 
old stock indeed,Benq has Been Taken Over by Lite-on,Benq 1670 is made by Lite-on

Older Drives chipsets where made by Philips,with lite-on making Chipsets for Benq,Quality of New Benq drives are not upto the mark as the older ones
 
UPDATE - The 1655 drives are new OEMs, come in a Pinnacle DVD writer box, but are labelled Benq 1655 on the drive label. I forgot to ask about the colour, and have confirmed 2 1655s for me and techhead.

He has agreed for a price of 2300 each 1655.

Anyone else needs this, please post asap, or tomorrow i will go pick up our drives and will post his number here in case anyone wants the drives in the future.

(No idea abt 1650, whether they are OEM or Retail, didnt ask coz noone wants 1650 yet!)
 
^Thanks! The drives are the last "true" Benqs, based on teh Nexperia chipset. Excellent burn quality, good scanners.

Okay, ive ordered 2 1655 drives for me and techhead, will pick em up tonight.

ChiefTechie has the phone number of the dealer, and is trying to work out a shipment of a 1650 to B'lore.

Picked up mine and TechHeads drives today.

The 1650 IS NOT in stock, its the 1680 he has.

But he has over 60 1655 drives, so its the next best thing, and the best drive to buy if you want excellent quality writer + error scanning, lightscribe is a great bonus!!!

Price for the 1655 was Rs.2300 each.
 
I just asked around ritchie and the cheapest price I got for Benq 1655 was Rs.1,500. But it's OEM. Boxed versions aren't available anywhere.

Is there better models available or is this the best one? I just wanna understand the 1650/55 fever here.
 
Im sure that will be the 1650 or 1680..the 1650 is an excellent drive at 1.5k, esp if you value reading and quality scanning which the LG H42 isnt too good at.

Can you go check the model in your hand if its a 1655 for that price? If so, then :O :O :O :(

Both the shops I went to asked some walla on the phone, so I can't be 100% sure, but because I asked them for the 1655 model specifically so I am sure (I even asked them ring up again to confirm). Both quoted me the about the same price for the drive but only as OEM. The 1650 boxed version is the same price as 1655 oem and the 1800 model was around 1.6K.

1650 boxed boxed version is a Better option...Some Oem Batches Use Thinner Plastic...if ur Unlucky u might end up with that ... always go for Boxed Pieces,its safer..
