Good 2 player games - PS2

I'm looking for some good ps2 games to play with a friend of mine. i was wondering if anyone here knew any that i could buy ? im not talking about games like tekken or smack down, im looking for some story driven 2 player co-op games.
the games i know of - mortal kombat shaolin monks, obscure 1/2, the warriors, metal slug, the red star and teenage mutant ninja turtles.

any other good games i could play ? preferably beat em ups. ps2 only.

LEGO series sucks. Though it doesn't match your description, the FIFA games are very enjoyable with two or more players.

can i understand the story of ratchet deadlocked without playing any of the previous games? do any of the previous ratchet games have co-op ?

this might not be what you are looking for.. but the naruto series is just plain fun..! try them out.. Naruto : Ultimate Ninja 3

No you don't need to play any previous Ratchet games to understand the story of Ratchet Deadlocked.It's a fresh new story altogether.The game is very long so you'll have ample time to blast through stuff.I don't think there is another other Ratchet title apart from Deadlocked which provided split screen co-op SP support.
