ASUS M4A87TD/USB3- Rs 5500

Phenom II Quad X4 - 925 2.8GHz, 8M, AM3 - Rs 6300

Total- Rs 11800

Asus M4A87TD-EVO -Rs 6300

Athlon II X4 Quad X4 - 635 2.9GHz, 2M, AM3 -RS 4900

Total- Rs 11200

Little more than your budget but in 11k budget this what i found with latest chipset

Prices not sure.

^^^I said unlocking.

No biggie you see.

Just set one setting in BIOS and bam there you go :).

Don't be afraid, everyone has to start somewhere.

Now you have to go for a AM2+ DDRII mobo as you have 4 Gigs of DDRII RAM. Which is not that great a platform upgrade. I would say buy a used Q9xxx proccy for ~8k or a new Q8300~6.8k and try to OC it to say 3GHz. That would a much better upgrade than a platform change as you dont have the budget for a PhenomII X4 945(7k) + AM3 870/880 board with SATAIII and USB3.0 (5.5-6k) and 4GB value DDRIII (5.5k).Total: 18-19k

If ur budget is 11k+sale proceeds than we can try to squeeze in the above said AMD platform components.

Q8300/Q8400 is not that bad an upgrade in ur case as its performance equal to/slightly better(5-8%) to that of an AthonII X4 635 in most games.

In games a even processor like the E6550.(Slightly slower than urs) performs ~90% of the AthonII X4 635

Athlon II X4 635 2.9 GHz --5k

Gigabyte 785GMT USB3 --- 5.5k

total 10.5k :)
OP mentioned recent Chipset...and 785 is much older, now we have 890 chipsets in market.

ASUS M4A87TD/USB3- Rs 5500. It lacks IGP though. Its an AMD 870/SB850 board.

@ Darkangel--------will it be a good combination with phenom x4 945???

Why not. If u have a GPU then the lack of IGP is not an issue. But all 880G/870 boards are pretty new and there are very less - no reviews online. So we have to go by previous products of the company rather than reviews.

Rashi who handles Asus warranty has lots of -ve feedback in the forum. But that said this the mobo with best combo of features in the 5.5k range. So its ur call.

Thanks all for Replying :)

^^ +1 on Darkangel suggestion

If you stretch your budget little more like around 15-16k you will get a killer Cpu and mobo, for taking max juice out from HD5850.

like as Darkangel said Phenom X4 955 or 945 around 7500 and with any 880 or 890 chipset mobo around 6-7k willl rock your PC.

and ya no ddr3 is not must for PhenomX4 like PhenomX4 940 doesn't require ddr3 but i think 940 is disconnected(not sure)

but if you use latest phenom x4 on am2+ socket then ddr2 will do.

see if this help you http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUResult.aspx

The 940 is an AM2+ chip unlike other. So 940 doesn't have support for Am3 and DDR3 (dual memory controller)
yes that's what i mean.So then

Am3 =DDR3

Am2+=DDR2

and 940 is disconnected sure confirmed it.

You can use newer AM3 processor with AM2+ socket board.

But cant use the AM2+ processors with AM3 socket board.

You cant even find PhenomII X4 940 in the market these days.

@OP. Yes u can use the PhenomII X4 with DDRII, AM2+ boards. But then whats the point of changing platforms when you are going for one generation old AM2+ board instead of AM3, DDRIII, SB850, USB3.0 ones. Its not a worthwhile change of platform. Thats why i asked you to change the proccy to a Q8300/ used Q9xxx and OC them slightly. Going for PhenomII X4, AM2+, DDRII is not a worthwhile upgrade IMHO.

Replaying to 4th post @hector19- No problem my pleasure.
i was just trying to fit inside his budget
