Reasonable hotel in Delhi, and travel help between Gurgaon and Delhi

I will be visiting Delhi / Gurgaon next week for a couple of days' stay and would like to know what are the good options in Delhi / Gurgaon / Noida in terms of hotel accomodation.

  • Budget max upto 3K.
  • Will be staying only one night. Plan to visit either one of Delhi / Gurgaon / Noida - where exactly will be decided only once there.
  • Prefer something close to a metro station and with easy accessibility to the domestic airport - at most an hour away.

I have shortlisted the Ginger at Delhi. Are there any other good options?

paharganj + karol bagh. cheap accomodation at paharganj. karol bagh has some decent hotels to look upon. google them.

OK, is there a metro near Paharganj? I believe Karol Bagh has one. Also, from here if I need to go to Gurgaon or Noida by metro, is it possible? If so, what would be the stop I need to get down at?

Paharganj Also has a metro station nearby, named ramaKrishna Ashram Marg. Its just few minutes away from Paharganj.
And yes you can go to Gurgaon/Noida via metro. I've never gone to Gurgaon via metro so i dont have any idea about that.
But to reach Noida, you dont have to change any metros, Noida, Ramakrishna marg, Karol bagh all are on same line. From the latter two stations you've to get a metro which goes to Noida City Centre.

^ Thanks buddy :) What about travel within Noida? Is it the same as Delhi? I mean are autos a reasonable fare or there is lot haggling to be done?

yep. Travelling within noida is easy. Buses are there, otherwise 'sawari' based autos are a good means of travelling. And auto rates are reasonable, though you might find difficult to travel by autos in Delhi, since the fares have been revised they've been fooling all passengers with anappropriate fares.

I was googling a bit and see that there currently is no metro station at the airport, and that the nearest one is at Dwarka Sector 9. However, the articles I found were quite dated. Is that still the case? Also, is travelling from Dwarka Sector 9 easy as in availability of cabs / autos?

The metro does not go to gurgaon as of now, the only strech which is functioning right now is Qutab (Minar) to HUDA, Gurgaon

South side of delhi is not connected with the metro right now. So if you want to stay near the domestic airport you will have to stay without a metro. As said before karol bagh and paharganj are cheap options available for a stay but they are a little far from the domestic airport. but you can catch a metro to noida from their.

You can stay near vasant kunj or vasant vihar which is near domestic airport but does not have any metro connectivity. If you plan to go to Noida (around 25-30 KM) it will take atleast 1-2 hours or more if its raining. If you plan to go to gurgaon (15-20 KM) it will take atleast 1 Hour plus again depending if its raining. on a cab.

Rain has created havoc in delhi and surrounding areas. It can also take more than 4 hours during peak hours or if it rains insistently.

vasant kunj and vasant vihar also provide guest house options but then you would need conveyence to roam around. If its an official trip you can get hold of a/c radio cabs which charge around 15 rupees a KM. autos are negotiating nightmares. buses are always cramped (there is dtc green (normal), dtc red (a/c) and blueline (private non a/c) )

you will have to be specific where you want to go and when do you want to go. you will have to forgoe one thing for the other.

ginger hotel pretty good. Stayed there early this year. Price of family room (4 beds) was 1k per night. Very clean rooms and 24hrs hot water. Very close to metro station.

You can also get ymca accommodation if you are a member. If you are looking for a place to stay in pahargunj make sure you look at the rooms first. No offense to delhiites but that place is like a slum.

I had done some research when i was going to delhi and found a lodge in pahargunj called Hare rama or Hare krishna which was recommended by many.

From airport if you are looking to reach any place then the prepaid taxis are the cheapest. You can book them in the airport

^ Yea, I too stayed at the Delhi Ginger last year and had a good experience. In fact, have had good experience at all the Gingers I have stayed in India so far. :) Earlier I had put up at some hotel in Karol Bagh, which though nice, was small in size, and cost me 3 times of a Ginger for the same facilities. Not to forget that Karol Bagh really isn't such a nice area for a peaceful stay (not to say that the station is, but for that price, one can hardly complain).

I am concerned about the transportation from Gurgaon - since that's where I first land - to Delhi. What are my options? I believe the Metro goes only up to Qutub Minar, and I need to go all the way up to Rajiv Chowk / New Delhi station. Do autos ply that distance, or are there something like AC city buses there?

Well if you are concerned about autos ripping you off use Quick Cabs :: Comfortable, 24X7, Economical New Delhi Transport Services.

I have used them when they used to charge 7.5 bucks a kilometre when others were charging 15 bucks.

Even now they charge 9.5 which is quite cheap. The Taxi's are not top of the class but decent.

Dont remember if they had the mentioned terms before but still keep in mind:

› Toll, Parking & other MCD tax is borne by the customer.

› Waiting charges: Rs. 50 for every 30 minutes.

› Cancellation charges: Rs. 100 within one hour of booking time.

Also best thing is to use "get directions" in google maps to get a rough idea how much they will charge you before hand.

They dont go to NOIDA IIRC. I had gone to Gurgaon using quick cabs 3 year back so it should not be a problem i guess.

Hope this helps

^ Quite a helpful post. 9.50 per km in today's date is really cheap. ATM looks like Gurgaon to Delhi travel is the inconvenient part, Noida is well connected with Delhi via Metro. Atleast to the areas I would be visiting. I just hope these cab guys are punctual.

Any insight on what the toll rates are like?

Dont remember but I guess even other cabs charge that so overall your savings stay the same. Btw they do send you an sms with the drivers contact number. All 3 times i used their service the driver reached before time. The last time i tried calling they were totally booked so wasnt able to get a cab and ended up taking the expensive prepaid cab :(

Better call before hand and get a booking. If most of your journey is planned then no point delaying it.

Live in west delhi, Metro goes straight to noida - travel time 30-40 mins in the metro. To the airport via Delhi cantt is 25-40 minutes via cab/auto.3 pretty good budget hotels back to back right infront of the 5 malls and Rajouri garden main market. :)

quickcabs have become useless, I wanted to book one to take me to the airport at 4 AM in the morning. I called them a day before to book one they said that they will confirm the booking only 2 hours prior i.e. 2 AM, when I asked what if you are not able to provide me with one, he said then I will have to look somewhere else, yeah right 2 in the morning no thank you. They are cheap but service wise I doubt them. You can try others like mega cabs, delhi cabs, meru, etc

During my last stay I had hired this particular cab service which had only AC cars, and a nice little touch screen device on board which also printed the receipt. I called them up and was given the driver details, and the car arrived dot on time. Don't remember which service that was. I was quite impressed. The charges were 15 per km.

Just found out, that time it was Easy Cabs. Looks like they still have the same rates.

hmmm. Thanks for mentioning that. I used it like 2-3 years back when the rates were even lower at 7.5 :P

I would rather spend more than miss my flight. Will keep that in mind if I need a Cab again :)
