The BBC list includes a lot of classics. Pleasant surprises were The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton and 4 of pratchett's Discworld books :hap2: Discworld is easily the best series I've ever read. Being consistantly brilliant over more than 30 books is really applaudable  Compared to say, Wheel of Time which lost it after just 3 books.

I have read half the discworld series. Now confused whether to continue or start again :P Some are just too funny :)

Will probably just continue, since theres not much continuity to maintain ;)

Looks like no one like Indian Literature.
Has any one ever tried Premchand, I am big fan of his style and read most of his work. Ocassionaly I read hindi poetry too.

Premchand is very good. Up there with Tolstoy and Maxim. But unfortunately, he is the only world class writer India produced before post-modernists like Rushdie, Ghosh, Seth and Roy arrived.

^^ I didn't find Jonathan Stroud's "Bartimaeus Trilogy" in the top 100 list. I found the book really interesting. Have to start on James Barclay and Robin Hobb though :)

Edit: @ shailesh, I read Hindi literature too, on and off. But the problem is, in metros, they are hard to find. I was trying to find a hindi translation of "Manto's" work (he is an Urdu writer), and am still looking for it. If the books were more accessible, and if the current breed of writers wrote something interesting, I would certainly go for it. I have even read the "Chandrakanta" series, which is fascinating :)

But yeah, me too towards primarily Fantasy these days.
