Ordered a Genius Ergo 525 (The one without the Mouse mat) on IndMall today based on the good opinion expressed by chaos and renegade2 about the ergonomics and decent performance of this mouse...:)

Wanted to try it out and see whether it is a good alternative to G5 and Copperhead. If I do not like it, I will pick up a G5 or copperhead when I go to US.

So comming to the point, I am looking for a good mouse pad to complement this Mouse (or the G5 or copperhead just in case) as I am pretty sure that my current 30 rupee mouse pad will not cut it with any of these mice. I game a lot (on weekends, about 10~14 hours with breaks) and hence looking for a gaming grade mouse pad. But I am a bit skeptical about blowing a lot of money on cloth mats which normally do not last long.

How good are the aluminium mouse pads in terms of performance and their life expectancy. I have gone though the Razer eXactMat reviews, but I am still not sure whether its made up of aluminium or not. I am ready to get one it its average life expectancy is about 5 years.

Cheapest you'll get is the Steelpad QCK. I'm using one with a laser and its pretty good especially for the price. Laser mice might have issues with aluminium pads.

I guess its the one that came with renegade2's Ergo 525, right? How good is the quality? I have not seen the quality of these things, But will it last atleast 2 years.

Quality is decent. Not extra special but quite good. I think it'll last a year of rigorous gaming at max not more. Most cloth pads get screwed in a year.

^^ Chaos.. Who said that?

If you maintain it properly, it can last you for a lifetime :P.

Id recommend the Everglide Titan/Razer Mantis Speed, just coz they are the best cloth pads available in the world :).

Hmm... like packing it back in the container after use...:bleh:

Problem is the maintainance. Though I try to keep the Mouse Pad clean, dust still gets attracted to a cloth pad very easily. So those pads will not last more than a year with me.:(

Titan and Mantis are too costly for a cloth pad IMO..:hap5: So Will try to stick to a Steel Pad QCK for now since its the mouse pad being bundled with this mouse.

Alright then... I wanna see you play with ur mantis speed after 5 years as well :P. No matter what you do, the top surface wears off after a year or so cos of friction... nothing much you can do about it however well you maintain the pad.

My fatal1ty cloth mousepad is > 1 year but you can't tell it's that old... there's a difference between quality mousepads and the cheaper ones, and how you take care of them. And c'mon noone keeps a pad for 5 years :D Good cloth pads will last at least a couple of years... I'll replace mine when it becomes unusable.

well.. though cloth pads are known for wearing out.. most branded ones don't. rio is right as long as you don't tear at it like an animal. in fact, one of the main reasons to pay extra and go for a branded cloth pad like steelpad qck, everglide titan is durability. i've had my rantopad SC4 which is a cloth pad of similar size for over a year now. some parts do look like they've faded but tracking wise, it performs exactly the same as it did when it was new. i just clean/wash it from time to time. now i've got myself a brand new razer mantis speed and when i compare both, there's not much difference.

@lord nemesis : i'd say get yourself a steelpad qck from therespawn.com, they're pretty cheap in india compared to the (only?) other option Everglide Titan. surface wise, both should be top notch but the steelpad qck maybe a bit too flat for some people's tastes.

nah, there's nothing like best cloth pad. i've got a razer mantis speed and it doesn't feel any different from my rantopad sc4 which i got a year back from australia for a much cheaper price. that marketing gimmick called fibertek doesn't really mean anything :P i bought it only for kicks in fact and it cost me 29 euro which is way too expensive. it's definitely a good pad but there's nothing that really sets it apart from the others.

oh.. and i compared my razer mantis speed with amar's (rey) Everglide Titan and they felt completely different even though all the reviews say they're the same.

1 more thing....i'd like to ask..does the local 50rs...30rs mats have any negative impact on the teflon of the mice....i'm 100% happy with the tracking of my local mousepad....but am fraid if it may lead to early wearing of the teflons of the mouse...

@bangalore members : anyone idea of availability of the steelpad in bangalore?

^^ It depends on the Surface. If its smooth, then nothing will happen to the Teflon feet... If its a rough surface, get rid of it now :ohyeah:

if you have a low budget try the QCK with surfers.. and see ur mouse glide :) btw surfers work on ll the surfaces of steel :)

Well, I was using a CM X-Pad III (just got it cos it looked cool :) ) and it really sucked. Now I have the Everglide Titan and no complaints. Mind you, I'm a real messy guy. I smoke a lot and that by itself is the worst thing to do if you use a cloth pad but fibretek or not, the Titan DOES NOT mess up my G7(I did want to mention it:ohyeah: ) like the metal X-Pad did. With the X-Pad, I had to keep cleaning my feet. Now I just give the Titan a good shake..dunno what it's doing to it's lifespan though... will bump up this thread in a year or whenever my Titan dies:hap2:...

oh yeah QCK is really good, and the size is ok.. unlike the mantis :@ the mantis is just too big i mean really really big..

if you have high sensetivity then you culd try the steel pad mini its not that exp :) its size is of a regular cassic mouse pad :)

How about the SteelPad S&S ? It's a hard plastic mat, and I think some of you like me would prefer those over the softer cloth pads? How do such mats compare against the likes of QCK+ ?
