im planning to get the atp3 in a months time. costs 3000 bux. i have a few questions :

1. i know that the sound quality of the onboard sound card is not pretty good. will i be loosing a lot in terms of quality if i pair the atp3 with it?

2. if i have to get a sound card, which one should i go for? is the audigy good enough or should i go in for an audigy 2(which i wnquired is abt 6000 bux)

Had owned a SB Live for 7 years now and Got the Audigy 2 ZS recently for 6k. Its good, but you wont be noticing any diff between Live, Audigy and Audigy 2 if your main purpose is music and that too using a ATP3 which is a 2.1 set. If you are also gonna play games and use EAX Advance HD and stuff, then you can consider going for the Audigy2.

Depends on ur onboard, really.

No onboard can compare with even an SB Live for the simple fact that the processing is being done by the main processor insrtead of dedicated hardware. onboard sound is basically comprised of the AC97 Codec on a chip which runs on the Main CPU for the audio processing. This is nowhere near the quality of SB Live or Audigy which use dedicated hardware. The CPU utilization will be high with onboard sound and also there will be break ups in sound when the processor is performing intensive tasks.

oh ! thats why when i tried to benchmark my cpu ( after setting the app. High/Realtime ) audio playback stopped for a while . i am planning to go for good sound card .. i currently have Creative SBS 2.1 which i am find it very satisfying . my budget is less than 800 bucks ... any chances here ?

my mobo onboard sound sucks i can easily find the difference between my p3 laptop sound and this sound .. what i cant understand is , both are onboard : weird !!

bass is my criteria i luv bass ! lol .

with a speaker set of 3000 why will you invest 6000 on a sound card!?
Also,don't you game?

I have a Creative sound Blaster live 24bit with Altec Lansing 251(45watts rms, standard model has 60watts rms) and in music my system barely competes Creative SBS 2 vanilla speakers with probably onboard sound or sound card not better than mine.

I have a Creative Live Value as spare.
I have not used it since about 3~4 years. it is packed and stored.
If you are interested let me know. price negotiable. and will be quite reasonable.

Nah the Audigy2 ZS platinum Pro costs 14k ! while the Audigy2 ZS costs arnd 5.4-5.5k in mumbai.

Its still available... platinum is just a plain zs + that front bay drive crap. Maybe not available in India.

@deejay: That card if its unused as you say would be worth around 800-900 rupees if its the 5.1 Digital edition and maybe a bit less if its the 4 channel version.

I got it through a dealer in chandigarh. He in turn got it from delhi. Original price is 5.6k + taxes and he also charged some thing for the card delivery as he sent a guy to delhi to get the card for me that day it self.

Uh.. when u say onboard has lower quality, do you just mean that it uses greater PC resources (and hence may stutter at times) or do you also mean that sound quality as in tones, pitches etc, are lower quality?

Also I got the ATP3 for 3.1k a month ago, so 3 months frm now you can probably get it cheaper than 3k
