Good time to upgrade?

Hello all,

I have decided to not go ahead with x120e because of apprehension with the small 11.6" screen.

And my present desktop is hopelessly slow, loading a new flipkart or even TE tab brings it to pause for 3-4 seconds!!

So if i dont get a laptop, i have to upgrade my desktop. Dont need anything fancy, but i find myself somehow in front of it atleast 6hrs a day (dont even know what i do!!). So it should not lag while browsing and should play FULL HD videos now that i have a big 22" monitor.

    4. RAM - Hynix 1x 1GB DDR2 @ 667 MHz
    5. Monitor -Benq G2220HD
    6. SMPS - Tech-Com 450Watt
    7. Local (but big and airy case which i have open most of the time)
    8. Logitech Keyboard and mouse
    9. Altec Lansing BXR 1221
    10. Currently running on an IDE 40GB Samsung HDD going strong for 9 years, and an IDE ASUS DVD -RW writer. Have put my Seagate 500GB SATA up for sale but can be used here if not buying a laptop.
    11. Have Toshiba 500GB external for storage.

    2. Keyboard and mouse and speakers are fine
    3. I already have 1x 4GB Corsair XMS3 RAM 1600MHz
    4. would like to keep case and PSU. (will change PSU if really required)

    1. I would try to keep for around 3 years like my earlier builds. May add a ram stick.

    1. Only if its a very good deal

    1. Heavy Browsing (2-3 browsers with 10 or so tabs each) That is how i do it, unable to change.

    3. I hate to admit but im on it around 6-8 hours daily
    4. Watching HD movies

    1. I would prefer an AMD rig

Only light old games like GTA:SA NFS MW, Hitman Contracts (anything new doesnt run on my system and dont get much time to play anyways) im okay with low settings just there should be no lag.

    1. Gaming - currently game on 800x600 so anything will be an upgrade

    1. Not unless i have to

    2. Linux - UBUNTU (may try Arch)

Now the options seem to be:

1 AMD APU

A6-3500 ~ 4k

A55 mobo ~ 3k

A6-3650 ~6k

A55 mobo ~ 3k

How much of difference is there in A6-3500 and A6-3650?

3500 is triple core while 3650 is quad core.

Can a core unlock be done on 3500?

They both have 320 shaders so GPU is same.

2 AMD with GPU

AMD FX 4100 ~ 6k OR AMD Phenom II x4 960T ~ 7k OR any suggestions?

Sapphire HD 5670 512MB GDDR5 ~4k

AMD 780 mobo ~ 4k

3 Intel with GPU

G620 ~ 3.5k OR i3-2100 ~ 6k

Sapphire HD 5670 512MB GDDR5 ~4k

H61 mobo ~ 3k OR H67 mobo ~5k

which one would be the best option. All with my 1x 4GB Corsair XMS3 1600MHz.

Or is it still wait for Trinity?

Go for the following system --

Intel Pentium G620 ~3500/-

AMD HD 6670 ~5500/- OR AMD HD 7750 ~6500/- [I would recommend that you invest in the 7750 so taht you can play all titles @moderate / low eye-candy + full HD resolution]

Intel DH67-BL ~5400/- OR ASUS P8H61-M LX ~3500/-

FSP Saga II 400W ~1900/-

Cooler Master eLite 360 ~2500/-

Also the performance will come in a really efficient package. If possible hold the purchase Till Trinity to see what advances the same brings to the fore [apart from a better GPU].
